Glock 20 and 22 same capacity?

What's the deal with the Glock 20 and 22 having the same capacity? Length is the same, but the Glock 20 is wider. Why wouldn't it also hold more rounds since theres more space in the magazine?

It'd be awesome if some company made some steel thinner magazines to get even more capacity in the Glock 20. It'd be sick with like 18 round magazines.

Well a Glock 22 is 40S@W and the Glock 20 is 10mm . The rounds are the same diameter "caliber". So a longer magazine is needed in both to get the same amount of rounds of each caliber . The reason the 10mm is in the large frame is the length of the case . 40S@w is called 40 Short @ weak . As compared to 10mm is a taller Case. I shoot 40 S@w out of a Glock 20 all the time . If you want some Big Mags. Kriss Vector Exstensions for the Glock 21 mags work on Glock 20 mags . And hold 33 rds. And are alot and are alot of fun.

If you need 18 rounds of 10mm, there's too many bears breaking into your house.

        yeah they are both .40's

Add a plus two base pad and you have 18 total... maybe there's a +3 out there I am sure there is.

        Here's a plus 2 and a plus 5.

The reason why the Glock 20 is so much bigger is due to the Glock 21. The frame is the same and the G21 came first. 15 rounds of 10mm is plenty of firepower for a handgun, unless you’re shooting USPSA limited class and you want max round count. As mentioned you can always add +base pads.

Although 9mm to 9mm, this company made a +5 for the G43X at the same length as the factory magazines. https://shieldarms.com/glock-43x-48-15-round-mag

Who has enough will to make it happen for a 10mm Glock...

No one has answered my question yet though. Why does the glock 20 magazine hold the same number of rounds as glock 22 magazine when the G20 mag is wider, and deeper? Is there a limit to how much rounds can stagger in a double stack magazine?

Thank you, that was the one i was thinking of. That'd be awesome if they did. Options to hold more rounds is always a good thing.

Wall thickness likely. Deeper has nothing to do with capacity, 10mm is longer than 40 and needs more space.

The glock 21 magazine is wider on the OUTSIDE to fit properly in the large frame.
The glock 21 magazine is NOT wider on the INSIDE where the ammo fits.
There is a limit on how much ANGLE (and therefore width) you can have the rounds staggered by within a column inside a magazine before the rounds will bind.
That's why you can't simply make the glock 20 magazine wider INSIDE and have it fit more rounds.

Here try this . The 40S@W and 10mm are the same Circumference. SAME Caliber the difference is the length of the case. The reason the 10mm magazine is larger is it Designed to fit in the Glock 20/21 large frame Magwell. The Reason the 10mm dosnt work in the small Frame Glock 17 /22 is length of the round , not Circumference/ Caliber of the round not length.
The Glock 21 mags are larger inside and outside to fit 45Acp . Glock 20 10 mags should be the same interior width as Glock 22 mags. But the exterior dimensions is to fit the Large frame Glock 20/ 21 . Having wider magazine only.adds minimal capacity. Think how rounds double stack in a Magazine . If you wanted to add more rounds the mag well would swell and people already complain about Grip dimensions on larger guns that's why Glock came out with the S.f. (Short Frame) Series in The large frame . I the end it's easier Cheaper to add Length / exstensions to a magazine then trim the interior of the magazine to add add capacity of possibly one round.

The G20 mags are not "deeper" than G22 mags. The magazines are the same length. The bullets are the same diameter, or width, if you choose to be imprecise. So, you can stack the same number of bullets in the magazines. If you do not believe this, load some 40 S&Ws in a G20 mag and you will find that you can load only exactly the same number of 10mm rounds in that same magazine.

As for magazine extension, Google is your friend. Here is a +5 extension for a G20. https://slrrifleworks.com/glock-20-mag-extension-10mm/

PS. I have no idea if that extension works. I never heard of that company before.

That would make sense. If the interior is no wider, then yeah there'd be no room for more rounds.
