Put a mag lock on it and make sure it has a 10rd mag and you're good.

Rethink your reasons for coming here. Trust me. We are all trying to get out of here.

You simply make it a non AW as defined by CA law and then import it into the state and send a personal importer form to CA DOJ. The way to make it a non AW is to make it into a fixed 10 round or less magazine. A very clean way to do so is to use a Compmag. There are other ways but, this one is clean, simple, there's no modifying your firearm and, no one can argue it is a "fixed magazine" under CA law.

You must register it as a PISTOL when you get here, mag locked and 10rd mag, and the brace is a huge YMMV but if you are disabled and this brace is really required to operate the firearm, you may get a pass.

Forget the 30" OAL thing, that only applies to RIFLES and those MUST HAVE a 16" or greater barrel.

So if you are not going to install a 16"+ barrel, this will be a pistol in CA. Therefore, you need to ignore laws that apply to rifles, ignore laws that apply to 'other' Title-1 firearms, and focus on laws that apply to CA pistols and avoid any configuration that would result in a CA assault weapon classification.

            Thanks everyone,

I get that people are trying to leave CA (I'm currently in Illinois and trust me, we aren't much better here). This is a work thing that I can't avoid and it's not very easy for me to get another job.

            much appreciated!

quick followup question, are you guys allowed to transfer 30rd magazines that you got during freedom week?

Nope, cannot transfer or import magazines greater than 10 rounds unless you are exempt by law.

Make sure it is not on the AW roster and register it along with all of your other handguns/rifles when you move to CA. Can do it through CFARS stpystem online and 30 days to do so

Would I have to pin the muzzle device on? I think that would make this an 'assault' pistol as CA says no threaded barrels.

The AR handgun cannot be featureless, so it must be maglocked. Once it has a maglocked ten round magazine the features do not matter.

CA says no threaded barrels on semi auto pistols with detachable magazines.

If you mag lock the pistol (and you MUST! unless you remove the semi auto function), it is ok to have a threaded barrel.
