For all you Detonic buffs out there, I finally set eyes on one in person yesterday at gun shop in Goleta. Was in pretty nice condition, couple of Detonic mags and the hard to find Detonic soft case in very good condition. I was not in the financial position to jump on it so thought I would share in case there are some Detonic gurus out there. Mark

What model was it? I used to own a Combat Master and loved that handgun but it was built like a rank and weighed just like one. I had shot thousands of rounds though it and the only time I had a problem was with a bad round. Uber reliable to the core and the weight really helped it shoot like a larger gun.Comment

It was 9 and some change, I had caught a ride with a friend and while he ran some errands I walked down to the shop.....doh left my phone in his truck. It was the blued model, combat I believe. I've always wanted one but with no income right now I couldn't go for it. Call Rick the owner, Goleta Valley Guns @ 805-683-1867.Oh no, not another 1911 !

Picked up this little guy the combat master n the bottom) from a fellow CalGunner about 5 years ago for $550.
Been a great little pistola.
Come to think of it, all these pistols have come to me for great deals.
The Clark Custom Long Heavy Slide was $800 (the grip panels were almost that haha!)
The Guncrafter Frag (two tone) was $2k in as new condition about 3yr ago.

There are great deals to be had.
That said, I wouldn’t sell my Combat Master (mine is a MK1) for $1k. Wouldn't even consider itsigpic

I know the gun, the OP is talking about. It has been there for a while now. Same model and finish as SLOChicken's Combat Master.
I've been hemming and hawing about it for a while now. If one of you guys wants it, you better get it before I suck it up and drive down there.*sniff* *sniff* Commies...Comment

My sentiment exactly. I bought my 1st Detonics right about 1979 and still have it. Made with a cut down Colt barrel sleeved up front to form a bull barreled muzzle. The thing feeds anything, even flat nosed 265 grain bullets primarily used for 45 Colt. I added a Mk VI about 20 years back.Picked up this little guy the combat master n the bottom) from a fellow CalGunner about 5 years ago for $550.

If someone came out with an alloy framed 1911 with a 3" barrel and Detonics length grip I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Depending on condition and when the pistol was made, any extras such as rug, sight blades & mags - I'd say $900.00 is OK. Not great, but livable.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

My dad owns the matte-finished stainless steel Combat Master Mark VII with no sights. A bit of a unicorn. Sweet pistol!Comment

I bought a barely used Combat Master back in the late 1970's for $289, with the soft case. Didn't have the wooden grip panels unfortunately, had a Pachmayr wrap around rubber which has been replaced with the same. Stove-piped a lot when I first shot it, extractor wasn't holding well. Once it was dialed in it shoots pretty good for a small large caliber piece. Sure is hard to jack that first round into the chamber, the multiple recoil spring requires the strength of a Gorilla.
I have done some work on the innards over the years to enhance reliability. It's always been more of a curiosity than a gun I would carry.sigpic

Believe it or not,
Numrich has New Old Stock Detonics wooden grips for cheap.

If finances would allow I would go for it, my other problem is after breaking both wrists, and toss in some age, small pistols and tupperware pistols don't agree with shooting them. Rick the owner says there are quite a few guys eyeing it but are leary because it does'nt say colt on it.I know the gun, the OP is talking about. It has been there for a while now.
