Hi, ive decided to get a Glock. Havent owned one before. Im finding that some folks say the frame feels too big and that they make a "sf" model that seems to fix that. Ive held the sf model and it felt great but no idea what a non sf feels like in my hand for fit.
Good chance ill end up buying used since new seems to be on back order which throws the various different generations into the mix.
Trie looking up measurements online but didnt find much on sf vs regular or if there is any difference in generations on that measurement. Namely from the back of the grip to the trigger (length).
Any Glock folks that can help educate me to that info?

Measurements are a waste of time. If it fits your hand then it is a non-issue. Fit is more important than any number.

Have you shot one before?

People tend to either love them or hate them, very little middle ground. I hate the way that they shoot, feels like a brick in my hand, but love the size and capacity. I can't say that I enjoy shooting it though. It is a tool which works.

It also changes how it shoots as the magazine gets empty, limp wristing a Glock will cause jams.

My suggestion is to go to a range which rents guns and try one for a bit.

In my opinion its a good choice for your first gun, with one exception, you need to go to a range and try different ones to see which one fits, feels and shoots the best for you. And you did not state which caliber you want. That makes a difference on grip size.

And possibly you may find that a Glock is not for you.

45acp ive decided on a model 21sf, but wondering about the different generations and the non "sf" as a comparison. Ive also seen 21c, no idea if they are sf frame or regular

When I got into handguns I didn't like them. I appreciated their simplistic design (fewer parts typically means better reliability and easier cleaning), but found them "chunky".

Bought my first, a gen4 G19, then a gen4 G20, and most recently a G43. Yeah, I learned to like them.

However, I rarely fondle my Glocks. I have other guns that get that attention.

Honestly, if you like .45 you gotta look at the G30sf - it’s the “subcompact”, but it’s essentially the same size as a G19. Will accept the full-size G21 magazines and there are 9 and 10 round magazines available. Got to shoot one a friend had with a 4.5” barrel installed - pretty impressive.

My 5' 1" wife loves the Glock 19 compared to the G34. My 12-yr old loves the feel of the G17 (even if I had him try a 1911, a Beretta, a CZ, an XD, etc.).

It is all about how it fits your hands.

Albeit, it can also be addressed with training (for example, I like how the Walther fits my hands better, but in California with a Glock being cheaper, more accessible, etc. I just practiced with Glocks).

Again, everyone is different. Try them out, and since it is a Glock, you'd surely find a model for rent in the ranges.

I have a G21SF and a G22 and the difference in trigger reach is very minimal.
You really have to hold the gun instead of paying attention to numbers.

Shoot any gun before you buy it, especially common guns like Glock.

SF = Still Fat

I held both at the same time, can't say there is much of a difference. Get the SF, you can add grip tape on the back or a sleeve if you want it fatter.

Skip the C model. Get a extended 10mm/45acp barrel with comp/port if you want to try.

Also, first time trying a Glock a number of years ago I did not like the chunkyness, grip angle, or the perceived mag movement when shooting.
But now I see them differently and appreciate them for what they are, consistent, reliable. And I really like the lack of manually operated safety switch/lever, lack of LCI whale tail, and lack of stupid mag release safety. Seven Gen 3s, one of them SF, and a G43, and still looking to add more, LOL.

Buy a Gen 4 or Gen 5, then you can change the frame from SF to Standard to XL whenever you want.
