SP2022 or P229?
Collapse

I have a fair assortment of Sigs including a SP2022 .40SW. The SP2022 is a great gun. -
Generally speaking yes. I have never handled them back to back. I could bring the SP2022 and a P229 out of the safe tomorrow and check. The SP2022 has different size backstrap options. And of course the P229 also has an E2 grip option.
But the controls are the same and in the same place, sights are the same, hammer and trigger shape etc. It really is like a polymer frame classic Sig.Comment

not really, the 229/226 is refined and you can always change up the grips to match your hands better both texture and thickness. The 2022 is stuck with it's fit
the decocker latch seems located slightly different as well. Mags are not interchangeable either.
That said, before the virus, the 2022 was on sale for 420 and 460 with night sights. great price pointComment

You can get factory small, medium, or large SP2022 grips.
Factory replacement grip for your Sig Sauer SIGPRO 2022, 2340 or 2009 models. These are brand new, stippled, medium SIGPRO grips and can be used to decrease overall grip size for shooters with smaller hands or those that prefer a medium grip size. These do not have the lanyard loop at the bottom of the grip.

The SP2022 takes down different though, it does not have a take down latch instead you push out the slide lock like a 1911.

it's interesting, i have the 2009 (first generation sigpro). i thought i'd prefer a smaller grip but shoot better with the medium grip.
i'm always surprised at how accurate the pistol is. I'm not sure why exactly but it is even compared to my 229...at least in my hands. That's not to say that i don't like the 229. The 229 feels great in the hand especially when you pick it up off the table but for some reason i shoot the SigPro better....not by much, they're both very accurate but somehow the 2009 hits the mark a bit more effortlessly. I'm not sure of the objective grip angles and dimensions but the grips do feel different to me...and i've tried all the different sizes. It's always tough to know how a pistol will truly feel until you shoot it. Wish i could be of more help here.
Mr. Bruce Gray, well known Gunsmith and designer who specializes in SIG, HK and 1911s, can and does shoot any Sig he wants. He carries a SigPro and has for many years.
I think if i could find any fault with the pistol is that some find it a bit snappy, and the grip change technique is dated...there's a little tab that must be pushed in from the mag well to slide the grip off. It's a secure system but i don't like it. I did change the sights to a small fiberoptic in the front which i prefer to the original front sight.
The SigPro has been incredibly reliable, having taken many classes with it over the years. I don't shoot the 229 very often anymore. I should take it out again.
There are a lot of pistols i would sell before my SigPro...it's utilitarian in a good way.
I have no experience with the .40, i'm a wimp when it comes to recoil.Last edited by mtenenhaus; 04-17-2020, 6:38 AM.Comment

The 2022 was my first Sig and is a gateway Sig.
I now own 2022bin 9mm and 40 cal, as well as the 229 226 and 320.
Sig Sauers are like 1911's , they multiply.
Either will be great additions to your collection.....all a matter of how much you want to lay out at this time.Comment

I have both, the 2022 is poly the 229 is all metal. Weight differences are obvious. Both are great pistols. Just depends on your budget. My 2022 was intro level, my 229 is almost double the price. Both have rails for a light, both have expensive mags, both shoot, both are sigs. Handle both of them then decideComment
