686 serials

ok i just got home after waiting 10 days. i'm trying to find out the approximate date of this 686-6 that i got. anyone know a website to look up serial numbers? or if someone could tell me an approximate date for serial CHU3XXX? thanks in advanced!


edit: ok after looking around the interweb (can't find anything on the serial) i have a new question. i was looking on the S&W website and noticed that what i have (686 4" 7 round) is labeled as a 686p. but in fron of the serial on mine it is listed as a 686-6? are they one in the same???

From what I understand the "P" means Plus as in plus one round, and the -6 is the revision number. I too have a 686-6 Plus or however the designation works. I had S&W do a trigger job and man is the trigger smooth and easy to pull!
