Modifying a Colt 1911

I have had this old Colt for a number of years now and feel it is time to update it a bit to bring it into the twenty first century. So far my plans are to open up the ejection port, cut the slide for some kind of an optic, install a beavertail grip safety and either cerakote it or maybe have it hard chromed. I guess I't cross that bridge when I get to it. According to the Colt website, it was made in 1918 so I hope it will be okay to mod it a bit.
