This is the one all 1911 owners need. Be careful, just clicking the link might get you locked up in Cali, or on a watch list.

28 Round Drum Magazine for .45 ACP. This series of drum magazines are designed to increase the capacity of your 1911 frame pistols and are ideal for fun usage on the range.

I think Wilson combat makes the best 1911 mags. But they cost quite a bit. I have also been very pleased with the mec gar magazines.

I own a couple of Springfield 1911s, and they've always run right using the factory magazines. Based on that record of reliable performance, when I want more magazines, I'm going to again order more *stainless* mags from Springfield Armory. I have seven mags for each of my two Springfield pistols, so, when each is loaded 7 + 1 with six full 7-rd mags waiting, that's 50 rounds of ammo for each gun. Whatever.

I have three 10-round Chip McCormick stainless 1911 mags, and those function perfectly as well, but I get by with the standard capacity 1911 mags from the 1911 pistol's manufacturer.

                    /my two cents

Wilson Combat...expensive as mentioned. I have found them the easiest to load...

Replaced all my SA with them. In fact I have 5 or 6 SA 9mm basically new mags if anybody wants a great deal. Bought them with the gun and used em for about a week...
Wilson Protector .45, Springer 9mm Loaded, Franchi Instinct SL .12ga. and some other cool stuff for the kiddos...

You get what you pay for usually.

                        Wilson Combat. Good mags.

Ed Brown. Good mags AND they stand by their mags so much they will take your old mags as credit towards your new mags. Talk about a flex.

I’ve been out of the market lately. I’m all stocked up.
So my experience with the RI and reg 1911 mags isn't all that great. My RI only likes the factory mags. If I run any of my standard 7 shot mags it won't lock back after the last round, at best, other failures go along with them.

I can run all of them through my two SA Mil-Specs but not the RI.

My advice to your buddy is to test a few before he goes all in.
