I was going to suck up and buy an RIA just for grins and giggles. I had a Rossi that was made by Taurus and it was decent. I just sold it because I wanted something different.

RIA GI is actually on my short list - as a token for Grandpa

Not really into .45 but I already have a case of ammo and need more parkerization in my life (and maybe a tanker chest holster).

Glad you posted this, I was just about to make this thread. I've been hearing from a lot of Youtube sources that Taurus is upping their game and their guns are getting quite nice for the price you pay.

Hopefully someone has had experience with the model 65. It's the only one on our roster that has a barrel longer than 2".

Supposedly they have all new equipment and they’re pushing for more quality - heck killing off the M85 is a pretty big deal, and their new pistols seem to be competitive. It was a black finish 65 for $399 that caught my eye - something about service revolvers still toot my horn.

Really crossing my fingers that the 865 Defender turns out, because I REALLY like that format.

If I can find a 357 for that price I'm buying it.

                I think I’d give a blued M66 a shot.

Are the YouTube sources paid shills? Taurus does not have a good reputation. If you like tinkering on stuff that doesn't work and your life doesn't depend on it then by all means.

                    I have a Tracker 627.

The bad: when I got it, the rear sight fell off after a few shots. Sent it to Taurus (at their expense), they replaced it, haven't had any issues since.

The good: haven't had any issues other than the rear sight above. I've shot it quite a bit in the past 15 years or so and liked it so much that I got another one. It's very accurate (including the sights), came with a very good and clean trigger pull from the factory, and it looks cool I've used all kinds of ammo in it, from snakeshot to really hot 158gr rounds, it had no issues with either. The timing's still good, it's still very tight.

Overall, I'd recommend it, with one reservation: from what I read, Taurus quality can be a hit or miss, so while I got 2 (well, 3, I also got a 689, which is a copy of S&W 686, and I like it too) hits, there's no guarantee you won't get a miss. I can't comment on more contemporary Taurus quality, as I don't have any of their newer handguns. The newest one I have is the second Tracker 627 from 2008 or 2009.

Me too. And I should know better.
Does anyone know if the 856 two-inch 18 ounce in burn orange, CH, is on the cali approved list?

                        Ain't goin to lie.

Been looking hard at the new 942 in 22 mag / 2" barrel. Not allot of info online as of yet other than the SHOT show presentations. Even called Taurus and was told that gun along with several other models had already been submitted to CA DOJ for testing, etc.

Hopefully it will be approved soon so local FFL's can get them in and I can handled one in person before dropping the cash.

I have a 66 that I bought in the 80's. The round count became unknowable years ago and it still runs like a clock.
