    S&W hammer push fix

Last night I discovered my prized Smith & Wesson model 66 has hammer push off. I opened the side plate and found evidence of a trigger job from one of its previous owners. Any advice on a fix is appreciated.

The usual suspect area is the hammer sear, been stoned too much or incorrectly. This sear holds the trigger in place until the trigger is pulled releasing the hammer to move forward for the primer strike.
There are times when dressing it will work, but many times a new hammer is needed, which will most likely need fitting.
A smith should be able to do it in a snap.

Any recommendations for a gunsmith in the San Gabriel Valley? I'll be calling Smith & Wesson on Monday to explore my options.

Unfortunately, I'm in the San Diego area and know of no smiths in your area. Sorry.

I think a hammer for a 66 was part of other misc revolver parts being sold recently on this forum or maybe coltforums.
            Good luck!
