    38 Special Ammo

Went to Turner's last weekend and they had no 38 Special ammo. Plenty of every other kind -- they even had 38 Plus P and 357 Magnum. Weird. Hopefully they got some in this week.
Gonna go to the range today and shoot my S&W 6-shooter:

I've got plenty, if you're interested

I usually go to The Firing Line in Huntington Beach on Thursdays, if you'd like to join us.

I would think 38's in that gun would be puppy dogs.....some 158g 357's make a nicer bang!

Dillion for the win. Straight walled cases are super easy to reload. Check rifle supply on gothard.

I do notice there is a lot more +P available in bulk packs lately, and even that euro spec stuff is pretty warm when marked as standard pressure. Either way, a full-size S&W would be perfectly safe to shoot +P in.

Thanks for all the replies. I shoot at FT3 Tactical, and they have several brands of 38 Special in stock. Yes, the 6" 686 handles magnums and +Ps fine; I just like nice, tame 38 Special. I'll probably stock up today. I've been playing around with 38 cal. moon clips lately (for my S&W 627PC), and seeing how the different brands work with moon clips. Not all ammo is the same in this regards.

LAX ammo, just up the street from you, is having a parking lot sale right now.

You have to match the moon clips to the ammo you're using. I use TK clips with Remington brass in my 627. The key is to always use the same brass.

I've got a couple thousand Remington shells, and I've loaded them a bunch of times. With moon clips, you never loose the brass.

Oh, and get a BMT Mooner, it's the best one out there.

I'm going up to Mesquite next weekend for their big revo match. Most of the guys shooting limited are shooting either 929s or 627s.

I think BMT has a chart color coded for brass and the thickness of moon clips?

just takes one guy going in for a box and the salesman says you can have as many as you want for the background check charge so they just buy 10 boxes so they dont have to go through this again for a while

You won't notice any difference between standard and +P 38 Special in that gun.... if the price isn't that much more.

Yes, all .38 special brass has a different size groove above the rim. You have to match the clip to your brass, and you have to use all the same head stamp.

When I last DROSed there, maybe a week ago, they were down on all handgun ammo. Only a few boxes that met my needs. Stocked up on 38 SPL before the last crazy. It seemed to be a desirable round.
