I think it's because you can get a quality 9mm barrel for the .40 but you can't get a .40 barrel for the 9mm. So for an extra $150 you get "two" guns. But, you should actually get 1-2 dedicated 9mm magazines as well should you decide to go that route. I also imagined I'd like to get a 9mm barrel when I got my 40 but now I think I'd rather just get another gun.

That's what I would do also, get another gun. Unless you are talking about a .22 conversion then that's just different.

I think having one gun that can fire multiple calibers would be the best one to get. Think about it, for 150 you can shoot whatever is on sale A new gun is another 500-600, a ten day wait, twice as much to carry/transport and one more thing a girlfriend/wife can ***** at you about having.

trust me on this.. i have a 9 my friend has a 40... i regret getting the 9 everyday... so much that it just sits there now...

2 for the price of 1.25 guns... hmmm do the math?

9mm have been killing people for years. It's cheaper and easier to shoot. My favorite pistol to shoot is my CZ75-SP01 in 9, don't regret getting it for a minute.

I have the 9mm 4" and my friend has the .40 4". I also have the .45 in Stainless and OD green. I love the .45, recoil isn't bad on the XD and you can get a .45 4" for about $40-$50 more than the .40 4". I am also hard pressed to tell the difference between the 9mm and .40 as far as recoil goes. For the barrel, if you get the 40-9 barrel, you can shoot for cheaper and get used to the gun, then move up to the 40 and work with that.

P22, don't get it. I had a 5" model with the compensator, inaccurate and pretty much fell apart. If you're wanting something cheap to shoot and work with, the P22 is not the one IMHO. The mag release is in an odd spot (trigger guard). The next .22 I plan on picking up with be the Sig Mosquito, it will help with firearm familiarity as far as operation of the weapon goes.
