Gen 3 magazine in gen 5 g34

I was lucky enough to pick up. Glock 34 gen 5 mos.

My gen 3 magazines fit fine but the slide doesnt lock back. I can see a difference in the feed lips. Just curious if anyone has figured out a way to get the slide to lock back.

I will take it to the range and see what happens, I'm sure it will run.

Take the slide off. Insert empty mag. See why it is not engaging the slide lock. You don’t look at the feed lips, you look at the follower and specifically the shelf on the follower that engages the slide lock.

If it does not lock back during function test, it isn’t going to lock back at the range.

I have had no problem shooting the older Gen 3 mags in Gen 4 and Gen 5 Glocks. Both in 40 S&W and 9mm. They should work.

I figured it out. It was the followers, the older style doesnt lock the slide back. I ordered some gen 5 followers to replace them. When I swapped them it worked fine.

Are your Gen 3 mags 10rd factory mags? You can’t just use a free state follower in those. 10rd mags are narrower inside.

That may be the problem you have now. You may have the 9mm6 followers (It looks like you do) and those do not work without modification in factory 10rd mags. They will not rise as high as they should without shaving in a 10rd mag body.

I have no idea if Gen 5 followers will work in factory 10rd mags, I would not hold my breath.

My advice is to throw out/sell/burn/launch into space all 10rd Glock mags. Get blocked 17rd mags.

But I guess you can try the Gen 5 followers since you have them on the way, and let us know how they work.

If you look at the followers theirs number on them. Look for the ones that works than order and look for that number

They are gen 3 blocked mags. I swapped the followers and one works perfect and the other only locks back occasionally. I can feel resistance on that one for some reason in the spring. But the follower did technically fix it, I think this bad one has a week spring or something else. Need to take it apart and figure it out but these base pads are pain to remove.

I swapped the followers out for Gen 5 and they work great in my 34 now. ...but I also have a $]|+ load of high caps too because I can still buy them. I just have 3 10-rounds to pass down to the kids one day.
