Stumbled upon one on an auction site and the starting is 6k. Have a look if you like.

That is not a typical Python as its chambered in .38 Special. I'm not a collector, but I do know that Pythons were typically .357 mag not .38 Special. What I found about the "Colt Python .38 Special target model": "Manufactured in 1980 with a total production of only 3,489 manufactured." So, yea, rare.

To my understanding, the 8" Blued .38spl Pythons do not fetch that kind of premium. I'm not sure about the rarity of an 8" Nickel Python however, let alone a pristine example with box and papers. Hopefully one of the experts will chime in and enlighten us.

8” Python is the most undesirable barrel length going. Be surprised to fetch the minimum. Python target is rare but being made only in 38 Special makes it more unattractive except to the collector who absolutely has to have it.

I'd part with my pristine (and original box and the box looks its age!) Python 38 Special for a lot less than $6k. I think the Target is unusual as far as Pythons go, not for the 8" barrel but for the fact it's 38 Special only, which is what the original design/intent of the Python was supposed to be. Python wasnt originally going to be a .357, but the .357 S&W market took off and Colt wanted a contender in that space back in the day.

Imagine if they'd never made them in .357.

Thanks but those little snakes are way high for me now. A buddy of mine in Modesto still has his 4" blue never fired in the box he bought in the early 80's, I should have bought one when we were there.

Colt Pythons with 8'' barrels or Pythons made of Stainless Steel...Too fishy...Throw it back.

Colt Pythons are great, but not that great. I decided early on to stick with Smith & Wesson.

You can call me a dump a** but instead of burry my $6K on the corner of my safe, I will get the Henry Big Boy 38SPL/357MAG rifle, this will be more accurate than that 8" python. And put the rest on the reload equipment for 38SPL so I can have un-limit supplied ammo for shooting every week for the next 10 years.
