Keep in mind there is a pretty decent learning curve for most new red dot shooters. Acquiring the dot on the draw takes practice for most people. Most new red dot shooters will align the iron sights first to help guide them to the dot. For this reason, a set of suppressor height sights can be enormously helpful in the beginning.

My cousin has one with a pic rail and TRS-25... after getting used to the trigger, it is a blast to shoot. I still think my MKII is way better, but it is loads of fun. Dancing soda cans at 25 yards is pretty easy... multiple hits on shotgun hulls is advanced but doable with a decent trigger.

I can get on the bullseye faster with a red dot than iron sights, especially at longer distances. At my age needing progressive lens to see all distances the red dot on handgun is a must.

Don't know if its on the PRK roster but I just picked up a XD-M OSP for 500.00 at Sportsmans warehouse, shoots nice and is set up for an optic and a can for us here in the free States.

I have a Gen 5 G17 MOS and put a Holosun 507c on it for awhile. As others have pointed out, it is a different experience than iron sights. After a month, I took it off. It is kinda fun at the range, but I still find iron sights to be quicker as far as target acquisition. YMMV.

Yeah the factory optics, OR, MOS thing happened after the SSE days, and well after the defacto gun ban kicked in.

If we are talking really inexpensive striker fired guns not on the roster, PSA has Glocks now... everything is made by them except the mags IIRC.

$299 MSRP for a basic pistol, $350 MSRP for a optics ready pistol with threaded barrel... and they will be selling uppers separately AFAIK. Not clear on the generation of frames they use.

I wonder how Glock feels about all the actual Glocks people are manufacturing now.

If talking about 9mm semi-autos, be aware that if the slide isn't lightened enough, the added weight of the red dot sight will cause cycling malfunctions when using 115 gr FMJ plinking rounds (failure to feed, failure to eject, failure to go into battery fully, etc.). Using heavier weight projectiles or more powerful loads can usually cure the cycling issues. Lightning cuts and windows will increase risk of foreign objects entering the pistol and subsequently causing failures. Those are the trade-offs.

IIRC, PSA frames are Gen3 compatible.

What handguns do you have now? As others have mentioned it should be really easy to swap out your existing sight for the RDS.

Hold out for an MOS rather than buy two slides since you know you want a RDS. If you were exempt or lived in a non-roster state, I'd say get a Canik TP-9 SFX or a CZ P-10 C OR, or PPQ Q5, or Glock Gen5 MOS. If you see any of those in a LGS consigned, grab one.
I bought a 34MOS thinking it would be awesome (newbie to red dots here). Found it seated pretty dang tall. But at that point I had finally committed to red dots so I send my P10c slide to jagerwerks and WOW was a dedicated cut lower and better than the MOS.

Gonna send my MOS slide in to Agency for their AOS cut as soon as my tax return gets here. And all future glocks will be non-MOS as it's not a cut I care for, and sure as hell not one I wanna pay extra for.

I put together a Brownells slide for my G26. Seems really nice and was easy to put together with OEM Glock slide completion kit. I just swap my barrel between the two uppers at the moment, so I can go between RDS and no RDS uppers easily. The Brownells slides seem really nice, and believe they have them for 26, 19, 17 and 34... IDK off the top of my head, but they have quite a few, and if you get one of their discount coupons you can get one for under $200.
