    problem with my 686

i got the 686 in december 08 and have around 200 rounds on it.
Very good gun just ONE problem: the cylinder keep getting stuck (not able to open or close). I put some oil , and it does not get stuck. But when the gun gets "dry" the problem comes back.

Is that normal? should I keep the gun soaking?

    Thanks

Is it a no dash or what dash? Pre-lock?

Your ejector rod may be loose. Tighten it by hand, reverse thread(counter clock wise), and see what happens.

As mentioned above, try tightening the ejector rod first. Next make sure it's clean under the extractor star. Next I would check the little spring loaded button on rear of cylinder and be sure it moves freely in and out. I had one that was gummed up one time and caused similar problem. Then I would check to make sure the crane screw in the side plate hasn't loosened up. It might be worth taking out the crane screw, pulling out the crane and cylinder and cleaning up in there too. I alway put a little dab of grease on the crane screw before putting back in place. If you're still having problems, check that your ammo isn't "pulling bullets". I had some reloads that were hot and not crimped tight enough and the bullets were pulling (elongating Overall length) from recoil inertia. The bullets were jamming up and shaving on the forcing cone. HTH c good

the ejector rod was my first thought. So I removed it , cleaned it up, put it back and tighted it well.
During that process I try to play with the cylinder; it would not move at all. I had to oil it a lot . In fact the cylinder has always been tight since i got the gun.(i put oil on the pivot part)
After that the gun works fine for awhile and then ooops again it gets stucks!

all mechanic parts look fine except the main pivot part which seems too tight

Just a guess, but the center pin might be a little bit long, if it is just a couple passes with a file will fix the problem.

nope...it is the pivoting part that it is toooooooooo tight.
Sometimes the cylinder gets stuck in open position (i would have to add oil)

Like I said, just a guess.

Maybe some of these guys could help.

So then the issue is, or seems to be, with the yoke and where it fits into the frame. And if it works for a bit then hangs up that to me is indicative of crud buildup. Try dismounting the cylinder and yoke from the frame and go after the inside of the hole that the yoke fits into with some Gun Scrubber and patches.

If that doesn't work you may want to go through the process of fully degreasing the yoke pin and getting some blue chalk on it and trying to determine where it's rubbing.
