    Glock Education Needed

My only experience with them is shooting one or two mags here and there of other peoples guns.

My questions are general and I don't need any huge detail. I can see that different models are different lengths, 17,19, 34 etc. But what do I need to know as far as what generations, and what those differences are, what's available here.

I may just end up with a Ruger PCC 9mm very soon and since it takes Glock mags it seems like a good enough reason to look in to a new pistol of the same caliber. Likely just want a 17 in 9mm.

Glock Gen-3 are the only Glock's on CA approved handgun roster, but there is always PPT option for other Gens you may be interested in.

Unless you're roster exempt, the newest generation you can buy new is gen 3. I prefer the glock 19. Small enough to conceal, big enough to enjoy at the range.

Cool! Oh wait, I don't know why I would want one over the other What are the differences, better, worse. If one off the shelf is just as reliable I'd rather buy new unless there is some big advantage to a different Gen.

The G17 is .5” longer barrel and maybe has .5” longer in the grip over the G19. The barrels aren’t interchangeable but all the other trigger/control components are interchangeable. Personally I liked the G17 over the G19 but nearly everyone agrees that the G19 is a very well balanced and flexible sidearm/carry piece. I actually ended up moving down even farther to the G26 subcompact, but I have G17 magazines for a full length grip.

Oh yeah, if you go for the PC Carbine, the G26 magazines are factory 10 rounders and don’t protrude much from the magazine well; kinda odd to have a full-length G17 mag that only holds 10.

Summary: subtle differences unless you're a lefty. I have Gen4s and prefer them, but wouldn't cry (much) if they magically became Gen3.

Agreed. Shootabilty is better with the 17 than the 19 for me

It's sort of like having to have the newest greatest cell phone to hit the market. Except the cell phone isn't demanding a premium price used.

Not being left handed I couldn't see the need to spend extra, or have one of the kids get me a nice gift, that does the pretty much the same thing my gen 3s do.

It's the AK-47 of handguns. The absolute best handgun that you can buy. The most reliable, accurate, durable and cost-effective. You don't need to buy anything else ever as long as you live. I own a few.

Over the years they have just seemed a bit clunky to me but now I'm getting more serious about fundamentals and technique I realize it was likely my failures and not necessarily the guns.

If you’re only going to go plinking try a G34.

the G26 and the G19 are good if you plan to use it for concealment, but if it's primarily for range use, I would take the G17 or the G34

all would be a good companion to a Ruger PC 9mm carbine

the Ruger PC rifle & G26 would make a nice combo, one for close range & concealment and one for longer distances, I like the standard G26 double stack 10 rd magazines, very compact.

both could easily be carried in a short range bag together, since the Ruger is a take down design.

The Gen 4 and 5 fit my hand better, but all Gens are excellent.
