    Changing fixed sights on 1911

Is this something that should be left up to a gunsmith.
I have novak style sights with no dots on them.
I would like to change them to night sights with out compromising the accuracy of the pistol.
Is there a way to measurre them so that I may get the same size I have now?
I am somewhat of a novice with the 1911, but I am really atarting to fall in love with them.

The rear site is easy, it's just a dovetail and slides right out. The front site is staked into place so you will need a to pry it out or cut the stake and then use a staking tool to put in the new one. Or you can silver solder it on but then you risk discoloring the bluing.

You could just send the slide off to King's Gun Works in Glendale. Here's a list of their sights. http://www.kingsgunworks.com/newcatalog/page02.html It's $40 to install the sights, Their sights range anywhere from $24 to $58 depending on the style.

How do we know it's staked if we don't know which maker's gun he owns? If it isn't a Mil-spec gun then the front sight will be dovetailed also. The only problem is if it has a blind roll pin installed that would have to be drilled.

If you have Novak sights, you can get the same sight with night lamps in them. Go to Novak's website and take a look. They will also install them for you for low cost if the slide doesn't require any milling.

The gun is an older model springfield TRP, with no magwell flare, no NM frame, no front serrations, and the frame is stamped tactical, and brazil.

I figured if the front site was dove tailed in, he could see that. I credit most people with some common sense.
