    XD Tactical 9mm Extractor

Bought this gun last year and I had a few failures to extract, exactly that it would pull the case about half way out then slip off then try to load another round. It happened to me 4-5 times in the first 200-300 rounds using 115gn WWB. After reading everything I could find some had suggested it was the ammo, some have had problems with the extractors as well and others say theirs eats everything with no issues. I heard some were replaced, or "tuned" by Springfield. One suggestion was to use "better" ammo or 124gn to cycle it better. Today I shot a steel challenge match and had one failure half way through the match using 124gn. These are my reloads that have worked flawless in all other 9mm's I own and a few weeks ago I ran 100 of them through the XD with no issues.

So with so few rounds is this still a break in issue? Most say they have zero issues with any ammo and today I read somewhere it's just that the loads need to be a little hotter.

I have also stripped and meticulously cleaned and made sure the extractor is intact and there is no debris behind it.

This is the load, the chrono avg is 1125.

    124gn xtreme copper plated RN
    4.5 gn CFE Pistol
    1.125

So is this a problem at this point or should I keep shooting it. Total round count is around 700.

Ok, I guess everyone else's XD is perfect.

Personally I have never had an issue. Sounds like you have experience with other pistols.
Could it be somewhat shooter induced ie limp wrist? Just throwing it out there.

sorry, my xd9 tactical has been running fine.

through 3 pistol classes, and 4 uspsa competitions, and various range days with it.

over 2,000 rounds through it just from me, and unknown amount through my buddy that i bought it from.

maybe there is something wrong with your extractor? how much are replacement part? if it isn't expensive, just buy it and replace it.

if it still does the same, then email springfield and get it warrantied.

I have a few XDs and haven't experienced an issue. Probably the only time I've bought two Springfield products and NOT had an issue of some sort.

The gun shouldn't fail to extract at all at this point. I'd check the spring and extractor hook to ensure they're each strong. I'd probably replace the extractor. Can't be that expensive or difficult.

It could be that the chamber is too tight, but since you said you shoot reloads, it is also possible that your brass is too fat. It will chamber with the force of the slide but once fired it will expand and be too snug causing the extractor hook to loose grip.

Hotter loads will not change anything but bulging the brass even more.

I actually had more failures with factory ammo.

As far as changing the extractor it's a bit more difficult than some but not a huge deal. I will try that first.

My xd9 has about the same round count and hasn't had issues. I have run @ least 5 different types of ammo through it
"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

Dump the Waddle World WWB as your base line for testing and try some good consistent ammo made to a NATO spec. Crappy ammo = crappy inconclusive results.

An occasional hang up of 3-4 inside of 300 rounds is an anomaly for a new gun. Not a consistent failure.

I doubt it's the ammo, the XD9 usually runs with anything

It needs a cleaning and I had planned to pull it out this time so I can post a pic when I do.
