1911 part needed

I have a SW1911PD and I need a new grip safety. Do any of you have a spare that you could sell to me? Or can anyone recommend a good place to buy one? I think any standard 1911 grip will work.

The grip safety is a 1911 part that generally requires fitting by a competent gunsmith. If it broke, why not contact Smith & Wesson? They have excellent customer service, and pay shipping both ways for repairs.

Smith & Wesson told me to get an Ed Brown grip safety because they don't sell that part.

Does anyone know how to tell what series 1911 I have. When ordering that part you have to specify which type and I am not sure what I have.

The local S&W warranty center is Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster. Try calling them.

The S&W 1911 uses a FP safety that is a cross between a Series 80 and a Swartz. Since the safety is deactivated by pushing in the Grip Safety, the arm of the GS needs to be as far to the right side as it can to engage the lever in the S&W (just like the push rod in a Kimber.) You need a Series 70 GS. The Series 80 arm is moved inward to clear the S80 levers.

Keep in mind that if you buy an Ed Brown GS, it won't match up to the frame on your S&W. The frame will extend beyond the grip safety when the GS is engaged and you will have to do a little blending on the frame........which can mean refinishing. Brown is a very high cut beavertail. You should also stay away from the Wilson since it needs a compound radius to blend to the tangs. If I were you, I would look at a Smith & Alexander, .250 radius. You can choose a palm swell or a memory bump. You WILL have to fit the blocking arm to the trigger.

My dad "fixed" it. lol. I guess compitition shooters get rid of that safety. I want it though.
