    Taurus 905

I bought a Taurus 9MM revolver for my girlfriend. I would not have done so after I learned that all ammo had to be cycled through only ensconced with Plastic. No Plastic, no Ammo.
Does anyone know of another way to "install" ammo in this firearm?

Another instance of where the "girlfriend" should have selected & bought her own firearm.
OP, are you saying these clips are plastic?

Not that there's anything wrong with plastic, I have only metal moonclips with my S&W revolvers (none in 9mm).

And no, I'm unaware whether the Taurus 905 can shoot without clips or not, although I heard Ruger's 9mm LCR can shoot 9mm without clips. Each spent casing apparently needs to be pushed out with a dowel or equivalent, however.

      You must be young.

Older shooters would know that rimless rounds fired from a revolver usually need half moon or full moon clips to function effectively.

The term is "load" the ammo, not "install". Lol

Why would you get that for your wife? Snubbies are not good shooters.

“ensconced with Plastic”? The gun came with plastic full moon clips? Watch the YT vid for alternate clips that should work better than the factory clips.

I’ve shot a Taurus 605 in 357 magnum basically same gun as the 905... anyone correct me if I’m wrong. Wasn’t mine but not a bad gun at all. Although I wouldn’t trade my S&W 640 for it.

Yes, buy metal or don't use the clips at all. Your 905 will allow the cartridge to headspace off the shoulder. The clips are just a means to either load all 5 rounds simultaneously, or aid with ejection. If you look at the video that JTROKS posted, you'll see at 4:36 that the rounds just fall out of the cylinder without the need for pushing on the ejector rod. Most, if not all brass range 9mm ammo will not stick in the cylinder, however +P SD ammo will benefit from using the clips because due to the higher pressure it will fully expand the case and will cause them to stick.

              - I'm sure someone sells metal moon clips for it...

              - that's your answer

                Jeez, 40 bucks for one - ? https://www.amazon.com/Moon-Clips-Ta...ustomerReviews

I tend to agree with the commentator who said:

Replaced with Ranch Products moon clips for the SP101; you'll have to open the center hole and may have to sand them a few thousandths thinner, but since the RP clips are a little more than a buck apiece, the choice to do a little fitting comes easily.

For those criticizing the OP, he's got a long history of less-than-good threads & questions on this forum.

Yet, he apparently values Calguns, as the last I heard, he retired/moved out to New Mexico. NM has some pro-gun laws (or lack of restrictive laws) but does have a little bit of liberalness regarding firearms, but not much.

I had one; as noted, there is no way to eject cartridges other than the use of moon clips (or a pencil, or your fingernails, etc.). The Taurus "stellar clips" bend if you look at them wrong. Once bent, straightening them is difficult if not impossible. Altering the Ranch Products SP101 clips worked... mostly. About 75% of them were reliable and they were certainly more sturdy, even after thinning them slightly, than the factory junk. Not worth the time it took to fit them IMO.

Revolver Supply will send you a sample to see if it works in your particular 905 - Taurus' tolerances vary enough that you'll want to take them up on that offer before buying a pack of their clips. Their quantity price (sold in packs of 10) is about half of what TK Custom charges. If you want the best quality, TK Custom makes the best aftermarket moon clips for the 905, hands down, but are pricey.

Regardless of which clips you're using, you may find that certain brands of ammo will be less reliable. Mine, for example, would not reliably fire Winchester white box 124 gr. NATO hardball no matter what clips were used. Rounds would be driven forward, resulting in light primer strikes instead of firing. This suggested that these rounds lacked enough engagement at the case mouth to headspace properly and the moon clips won't support them sufficiently to prevent this from occurring.

I replaced mine with a Ruger SP101, which to date has shown none of the ammo sensitivity of the Taurus. The Taurus is a fun range toy but I certainly wouldn't trust my life to it, at least in its 9MM incarnation.

I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Go dump that 905 at the local shop that'll give you the most for it and get her a 605!

And carry .38 +P through it, for manageable results.
