    Welding 1911 frame rails

Are there any recommended smiths in Southern California that can weld and re-fit a 1911 slide to frame? I have two Springfields both of which have grown to be quite rattle traps.

I believe Brett Cifaldi can do it. He has posted some great gunsmithing pics on the forum. He's in Corona.

Haven't used them myself but here's an option that's been around a while.

Achieve the ultimate in accuracy by ensuring the tightest slide-to-frame fit available. Acc-U-Railed guns won't shoot loose like those tightened by peening or squeezing.

My CT Brian gun has Acc-u-rails and it's super tight, but is smooth and functions perfectly. I believe Tim still uses them on some of his builds.

I used them in the 90s, I think. It was the hot setup back then.

But how do they shoot? Are you already more accurate than the gun?

I’ve had 1911s with sloppy slide to frame fit but has fitted barrel bushing and the barrel lugs, hood, slide stop fitted, but shoots very accurately. Tight slide to frame fits benefit guns with red dot sights and also makes the owner of the gun feel good.

Jim Milks is a 1911 pistolsmith located in PA. He's known for his welding skills and I highly recommend him. I also agree with Cifaldi, in that if your going address the slide to frame fit, you might as well have match bushing and barrel competently fitted.

Don't think welding will be necessary just to tighten up the slide to frame fit. There are tools that will tighten the groves on the slide and frame for a custom fit.

But like others have said, if looking for accuracy improvement a new fitted barrel will be more bang for the buck.

The rattle is tolerance for dirt. The pistols are probably stupid reliable right now.

One of mine has the factory barrel with an EGW bushing, it’s definitely the looser of the two. My other one I recently fitted an Ed Brown barrel into and it absolutely tightened it up compared to how it was before.
