Few years ago S&W decided to put internal locks into their new wheelguns. Look for a small hole above the cylinder release, if there is one the gun has a lock. A lot of folks don't like them, and there are stories/instances of the gun/lock "locking" up at the wrong times. Check out the S&W Forum, they have a lot of posts on this. Hope this helps.
