    45ACP vs. 450SMC video.

Some might get a kick from this. Took this video shortly after building this 1911. This is a very important gun to me. God used this build to bring me back when I had lost hope after my disabling accident

This is my son shooting back then. The 450SMC is pretty impressive. 185 JHP @ 1350FPS...a 10mm KILLER! LOL!

Cool video but seems it might be more reliable in a .45acp revolver cylinder, or a pistol that can reliably shoot the added spunk

Nice! It might be more reliable if a stronger recoil spring was used to manage that hot round.

how far is your brass ejecting on that 45 super load?

What do you mean more reliable? It’s been completely reliable. It didn’t jam at the end. He only loaded the 3 rounds on purpose. But it will fire both the 45acp and 450SMC without problem.

It’s already using a heavier spring guys. In fact it uses a 24lb main spring, and I use another 24lb for dedicated 450SMC, and change to a 17lb when shooting 45acp. The 45acp will fire and cycle fine with the 24lb, but slide does not lock back on last round.

Not my first “RODE-O” guys. I learned how to build and make a 1911 function correctly many years ago. But I appreciate those who thought they were helping.

That’s hot. I wouldn’t mind trying some in my Mark 23. Range session sometime?

EDIT: never mind you’re in Philly enjoying freedom.

I’m a little confused. Your statement sounds like you fired 45acp & 460 Rowland in the same pistol. So you ALREADY have a 460 Rowland kit?

The 450SMC is still much closer to 45Super. 460 Rowland is in another league.
                      (Longer case, much more powder)

Trim new brass down to ACP length?? So, you are saying you are firing both Rowland & ACP in the SAME barrel of your Mk23?

So the 460 Rowland’s case is PURPOSEFULLY made 1/16” longer so it CAN NOT be fired in a standard ACP Barrel! A true 460 Rowland, will toss a 185gr pill @ 1600FPS! And a 230gr @ 1400FPS! That is not happening safely in an ACP Barrel!

A 45ACP will not cycle correctly in a properly set up 460Rowland gun. And doing what you are talking about, is a recipe for disaster! If you are trimming the brass, than there is no way you are loading 460 pressures! (40,000psi)

                            Great job Dave.
I have no interest in a faster .45 but I can certainly enjoy the efforts of another in their own quest to experiment.
No small task getting an ammunition manufacture to go into production of your unique loading.
I would enjoy reading of how you were able to bring that about.

Your fortunate to be able to share this experience with your son. Great job on having him involved.

Thank you Matt. But I do apologize. The 450SMC is not MY conception. I’m sorry for not better explaining. No, the 450 is basically a 45 Super but uses a small rifle primer. Triton was the creator in the late 90’s/early 00’s. Here was the domain page(it’s still up although they are out of business).
Triton's on-line catalog, offers complete information on our line of ammunition, accessories and services, like the Quik Shok, Hi-Vel, Hi-Master and other ammunition.

I bought some and tried it in about 2005. But then they went under and I never heard of it again. Until a few years ago when Mike Mcnett at Double, Tapp picked up the licensing for it. So now his business is the sole proprietor of it.

And along the lines of using it, it’s simply for fun and something to have if needed. But Federal HST Tactical 45ACP is my preferred defensive loading when in defensive use. And even that has only been for necessity. Now I’m going back to 9mm for carry.

While powerful cartridges can be fun, modern ammunition and in particular the bullets, have really leveled the playing field. I don’t believe in “knock down power”, “static shock” or any of that hoopla.
