Just got a NIB HK Expert 45 (BH manufacture) via PPT (a Calguns find) and it came with some disassembly tools, a BOBBED hammer and a detent plate. Is the detent plate something that needs to be replaced as well if I decide to install the bobbed hammer..? What do the numbers on the plate indicate? Thanks all..!!!

HK EXPERT BOBBED HAMMER

The numbers on the plate indicate the variant modes that the plate supports. A plate with 1+2 supports mode 1 or 2. You can use the bobbed hammer as you wish, it is not required but is commonly used for DAO or LEM. But a bobbed hammer is not ideal for variant 9/10 because there would be no easy way to decock without a hammer spur.

Thanks Skyhawk. My Expert is a Variant 1 (has the safety/decocker on the left side). The extra plate reads 5+6. So I can leave in the factory installed detent plate and only replace the hammer..?!The numbers on the plate indicate the variant modes that the plate supports. A plate with 1+2 supports mode 1 or 2. So very likely the bobbed hammer you have is the DAO hammer and goes with the 5+6 plate.
I thought maybe someone had included the USP Compact hammer (which is bobbed and will work).
Lots of hammers

I own two USP Experts, which I bought new. There is an included instruction sheet which states that the bobbed hammer was included to satisfy dimensional requirements for IPSC competitions, and that it was otherwise functionally equivalent to the hammer which came installed from the factory.Just got a NIB HK Expert 45 (BH manufacture) via PPT (a Calguns find) and it came with some disassembly tools, a BOBBED hammer and a detent plate. The 5+6 detent plate disables the de-cocking function, and should probably not be used with the bobbed hammer.Last edited by mrdd; 10-22-2019, 6:42 AM.Comment

Thanks for that info, very interesting!! It is also confusing in his case considering he got the 5+6 plate. So OP - I would proceed with a close comparison of the hammer to online sources so you can figure out which one you have. It is possible the original owner kept the other hammer and gave you a DAO hammer. Or it is possible he just bought a 5+6 plate thiinking it would go perfect with the hammer that Hk gave him - doh!I own two USP Experts, which I bought new. You could also remove your existing hammer and compare it to the bobbed hammer that you have.
And as noted, the 5+6 plate should probably only be run with a DAO bobbed hammer or a spur hammer.Last edited by SkyHawk; 10-22-2019, 9:46 AM.Comment
