This older Colt commercials (C suffix) are generally fantastic pistols. It’s definitely a keeper. Either in current condition (assuming it still works ok), or for simple restoration or a full house custom (or a resto-mod, i.e., something in between). Many high end smiths speak the virtues of those old commercials.

Hello Fellow Calgunners,

I have a family friend who is also a a Vietnam Veteran, he's not to computer Savvy but happens to be a great Guy. He asked me to help him find the manufactured date on his 1911 COLT which has the serial #243890-C... It appears to be at least 50-60 years old. No box or papers....
Can anybody please offer assistance in this matter. I attempted to look up for him but had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joe, you got pictures? The old commercial guns should be treasured as an heirloom. Colts prior to the Series 70 (1970) were works of art, great bluing, etc, etc. JMHO
