    Taylor or Uberti

Thinking about having a nice SAA and can't afford the Colt's so Turners sales Taylors for about $650/700 and Bass Pro sales Uberti for about $500. 45 Colt caliber.

Anyone have any one over the other comments?
    1. Compared to what?
    2. At what cost?
    3. What hard evidence do you have?

I thought Taylors just import from Uberti and hand pick the better ones.

Based on the above I'm assuming "4 clicks" is something you prefer over the transfer bar type action. Don't know if it's a Uberti thing regardless of distributor or if the end supplier - Taylors, Cimarron, etc - makes a difference, but Cimarron offers their SA revolvers with a trigger actuated safety. Outward appearance is the same as conventional SA but you get 3 clicks, not 4. And the trigger sits far forward in the trigger guard because it needs some travel to actuate the firing pin. I don't care for it, may be unimportant to others.

Taylors seem to be made (by Uberti) to higher quality specs than brands like EMP and Traditions. You may want to check out Cimarron. Also, it's a long shot, but there are some USFA SA revolvers floating around and although most are pricey finding a deal isn't unheard of. They're very well made.

If you don't care about the clicks but are looking for a cased hardened frame, Beretta Stampede and Ruger Vaquero are worth a look.

Taylors can be had online in the $400s, so shop around.

I have a Taylor Gunfighter. Love the case hardening, the classic look and feel.

Buy once, cry once. Well, maybe twice after you open the box. http://stdgun.com/single-action-revolver-1/

Oh no! They raised their prices. It's going to be a little longer before I get one of those.

Depends on the model you want.
All those are made by Pietta or Uberti.
                Cimarron, Taylors, Traditions, just importers.
They do some tweaks to call them theirs.
Uberti does make nicer Revolvers overall compared to Pietta.
I have had several of both, Like Uberti for cartridge guns
                and Pietta for Black Powder.

I owned a Cimarron a few years ago. I wouldn't hesitate to pay a little more for a Taylor or Cim. They pick & tweak some nice pieces

From what I understand Taylor's really gives them a good going over, and also sometimes has "exclusive" sets of features and tighter tolerances.

Cimmaron, from what I understand, gives them a decent once-over.

Uberti is in a sense second-tier Uberti. Not that there's anything wrong with a Uberti at the price point. Heck of a deal, IMO.

You can order the parts from Taylor to make it "4 clicks" again if you want, but it messes up the custom tuning. I, too, was disappointed mine didn't come with the old Colt action, but, FWIW, I still really like mine.

Thanks for the info; I am learning as I don't own a SAA. I'd love a colt but its not in the budget and doubt it will be anytime soon.

I am in a similar situation and also new to SAA.
My current short list candidates are Uberti El Patron, which they claim that it is tuned in house and Taylor's Runnin Iron (they have one that is tuned in house also, but cost more). Probably would go with short-stroke version.

Here are two stores where you can buy Taylor's and they would have their in-house gunsmith to go over the actions and adjust the trigger pull down. I got the information from SASS Wire Forum.
