    Beretta 92 Locking Block

    Hi

Is the locking block supposed to be really easy to detach from the barrel without removing the pin?

While cleaning my 92, I've accidentally removed the locking block multiple times.

Anyone else have the same experience?

It is normal, but not all of them come out easily or fall out.

Had it happen with my Taurus multiple times. At the same time, I broke two locking blocks over 10,000 rounds with that PT92. I sold it after they fixed it the second time (under warranty, but still...). I sold the gun shortly after that.

The locking block is a consumable item. I would strongly suggest replacing it every 5k or so. When it fails it can go bad quickly. Yes they drop out

Beretta sells a new beefier locking block and pin, I'm planning on doing mine soon.

I have had both, Gen 1 and Gen 2 blocks can slip off its slot. Gen 3 blocks require the pin come out.

Neither of them are robust, I broke all generations of locking block. Consider getting some spares

The original locking block on my U.S. made Inox is going strong and nearing 11,000 rounds*.

I'll be changing it at when it hits 15,000 rounds but I'm confident it will survive beyond that.

I forecast 18K to 20K to be its failure point.

Anyone know if the Beretta part is a direct fit with the Taurus?

FWIW, run the plastic recoil spring guide rod. This is taught in the armorer school as well as provides some flex/load relief from the locking block during use. In 2010-2016, I armored a units 20 B92s from 1987-1988 and this actually helped. Yes I did a lot of locking block replacements and even exchanged some barrels as the lug cracked along the barrel interface. Never needed to replace a slide assy.

The B92 is a good gun and I have seen the gun take all the force of an unsupported chamber, case failure, with no injury to the shooter. I have alot of time on that gun and am happy with it and will fight with it.

Like everything, train with it, run that shooting hand thumb up on the safety during presentation and keep it there until the threat is dealt with.

Mines been a pain in the butt to remove. Not that I care as I clean and scrub all around it and have never had an issue.

I direct dropped in a Beretta barrel assembly into a Taurus PT99AF. No fitting or mods needed.

FYI barrel assembly has the locking block with it. The Beretta factory barrel was a better barrel than the Taurus factory barrel, at least for me it was. Better supported chamber, chrome lined barrel, tighter locking block tolerances.

Yup. The stainless locking blocks seem to last longer.
