    Glock 19 Slide Lock Problems

I have a gen 3 Glock 19 that I just put a RMR on. The gun is completely stock besides the slide and rmr. I've used the slide for over a year and have about 5k rounds through It with no problems. Today I went to shoot with the rmr and found that the slide wasn't locking back on empty magazines. I tried 15 different mags and none locked the slide back. I came home and thought maybe the slide release was the problem and I installed another OEM release, still not locking back. I put the slide on a different frame and still wouldn't lock back. the only thing different about this gun is the rmr so would the added weight cause this much of a problem? Do I need a stiffer recoil spring? Any information or ideas would help, Thanks! This is my first post so let me know if I'm doing this in the wrong place.

What type of ammo are you using?

Use lighter recoil spring and hotter ammo.

Stop if your thumb from the support hand leans on the slide.

My rmr cut slide weights 15.5 oz with optic, barrel and recoil spring. my oem slide weighs 1.03 oz with the exact same barrel and recoil spring.

My hands aren't disengaging the slide release I know that for a fact. This is the first time I've used this federal 115 grain fmj so the ammo could be the problem. Ill take some other ammo to try tomorrow.

That ammo may not be pushing the slide all the way back.

Not disengaging the slide release but riding (leaning) on the slide that puts friction on it.

The problem is that the slide does not go all the way back to engage the slide lock and there are many contributing factors:

                  1. Adding more weight to the slide
                  2. Weak ammo
                  3. Stiff recoil spring
                  4. Thumb riding on the slide
                  5. Not enough oil (for tight slide to frame tolerant pistols I.e. 1911, CZ Orange model)
                  6. Stiff main spring (for hammer fired pistols)
                  7. Recoil buffer

In your case, using hotter ammo may solve it.

I would try something a bit hotter. 124 gr NATO might do the trick!

Sounds like you figured it out if its tu our first time using that ammo and the first time it is not cycling properly it is safe to assume that the ammo is what is giving you problems.
Most likely you could go to a lighter recoil spring and use it or switch back to a ammo that will reliably cycle it.

Get a lighter recoil spring. Shoot any type of ammo with it. Problem solved.

Stock G19 recoil spring is 18lbs? Get a 15. See if that helps.
