New guy with possibly a stupid question

I have an XD40 5" Tac, about a year old with maybe 1500 rounds through it. I have never had a jam or anything until this week. I hike a lot, and as snake season is here, I picked up some snake shot. While I was at the range i decided to give it a try and see what it did, having never used it before I was not sure how it would feel or how it would spread. I only Loaded 2 in the magazine for a test. First shot it only ejected half way, I racked the slide, it cleared. Second shot did not seem to even try to eject, but did clear when I racked the slide. Is this normal for snake shot? I did not have any problems with my cheap walmart blazer brass, or winchester 180 grain (I think it is 180) wither before or after the snake shot.

    Thanks
    Cris

Thanks, that is what I assumed, but wanted to make sure. I did not want to assume with a firearm.

Yeah not too uncommon with snake shot. Now leave the poor snakes alone..

Thats why a revolver works best for snake shot.

I plan to pick up a revolver for outdoor/wilderness. They are simple to operate and even a person unfamiliar with firearms can be taught to safely use one should they have to.

Oh, and its just the ammo

P.S. I own the exact same pistol and I love it!

Snake shot doesn't generate enough back pressure to properly eject most of the time. It's similar to firing a blank. That's why semi-auto rifles require a blank adapter to function properly in semi-auto mode.

Fixed that for you. Not many pistols are gas operated, and the XD isn't one of those few.

I like to have a little NAA 22 mag pistol loaded with snake shot for wilderness hikes when snakes may be near...works great.

And ya, none of my semi-autos eject snake shot either, 9mm, 40 or .22lr. Not enough forward moving mass to push the slide all the way back.

Unless the Snakes are armed as well I would not worry about it.

I prefer revolvers when dealing with snakes
