    Para Warthog?

anyone have a Warthog? I DROS'ed a Stainless Warthog several weeks ago at the Vallejo gun show and was finally able to bring it home yesterday. it is more compact than a Colt Defender except for the width of the grip. can't wait to run some ammo through it!

I have the P10 - plain Jane version of the WH. Much easier recoiling than its size would indicate and mine is very reliable. I've found that Mecgar mags work every bit as well as factory. If you happen to have some P14 hi caps laying around they work in the WH, and you can buy a sleeve that gives the effect of a full size grip.

Don't know if it's the case with the WH, but my P10 had a plastic mag release and trigger and mainspring housing. I replaced them all. The gun also has a trigger actuated firing pin block that I feel interferes with a good trigger, replaced them with Brownells replacement parts that take up the space but eliminate the function - if you have a little plunger on the underside of the slide then the WH has the firing pin block. Doesn't bother most people I suspect, and the WH certainly isn't a target gun, so I'm probably going a bit overboard with the change.

I'd really like to see a 3" barreled single stack 45 1911 with the WH grip length. Seems that most of the short 45 1911s have the 3 or 3.5" bbl which is great, but they use a too long grip frame. A 3" bbl with the WH or Detonics length grip would be great. I have a few Detonics and the shorter frame makes a difference in concealement & comfort.

I have a Para Warthog and it is one of my primary carry guns. It shoots like a dream and packs just as well. I would bet my life on it! You can't go wrong with a Warthog.

I was thinking of the Slimhawg, but I thought the grip was a bit longer & height higher than the WH. I measured my WH - comes in just a touch over 4" same as my Detonics. But the Para sight says the WH and Slimhawg are the same (4.5") height. Oh well, I just bought a Springfield EMP in 9mm and it's listed at 5", only an inch I guess.

i have a warthog. when i started to shoot it with 230 grain, i had a little problem with FTE. after reading online about this problem, everyone recommended using 185 grain bullet. since the change, i've never had a FTE issue. i would trust my life with the handgun!!!

I had the chance to shoot one of these just yesterday. It was accurate enough for its intended purpose but really unpleasant beyond that.

I always wonder why the para line doesn't do better here in california as they are one of the only 1911 makers that give reasonable prices with a quality stand up product. So whats the deal guys, why the disapproval of para??

I fired a Warthog as a rental many moons ago. What a fun lil pistol. As a close range carry gun it would be great methinks, just be ready for it to try to leap right outta your hands cuz it's got one helluva kick.

Although they've expanded their line I suspect much of the reason folks buy Paras (hold greater than 10 rounds) isn't something we can use here in CA. So what you're left with is a very wide grip that holds ....... 10 rounds. Then they have the LDA models, a trigger I don't particularly like and something that to quite a few 1911 fans may mean it's not really a 1911. Trigger actuated firing pin block makes for a generally less than great pull, a few plastic parts and a bake on type finish may whittle away at their buyers also. Just my thoughts.

I've been eye-ballin' the warthawg as my next .45. I've seen a few nice ones in the classified sections of various msg boards - fairly priced I might add.

Thank you, so now I will think about mini Kimber rather than Para on my future first 3 " 1911.
