    Glock evolution questions

Interested in a Glock model 21. Keep hearing about Gen1 Gen2 and Gen 3 but cannot find what the differences are. What Gen is best and what should a prospective buyer (me) look for in a used Glock.

There is 4th gen too but that is the new RTF so for the Glock 21 it will be 3rd generation with is with the finger grooves and light rail. Most stores only sell the glock 21 in 3rd gen cause that is what glock ships. The 1st and 2nd gen are available usually through ppt, used or consignment. Gen1 is no rail and no finger grooves, 2nd is finger grooves and Gen3 is rail and grooves...I believe that is correct. It gets confusing. It think there is even a 2.5 gen too. I owned a glock 21 it is a large frame double stack .45 which is nice. I have a large hand so it fit me properly. Look into the Glock 21SF which is the short frame and actually feels a little bit nicer. Id say go with the 21SF. Hope this helps.

There is no 4th gen Glock.

The OD, SF, MB and RTF are variations of the 3rd gen Glock.

1st gen, 2nd gen and 2.5 gen Glocks are no longer produced.

Also the RTF might be awhile for 21. I read in the glock mag that they are doing the rtf 22 then 23 then they will move onto the 17 and 19. No word about RTF 21

Isn't the SF for Slim Frame, not Short Frame? Wouldn't a shorter framed Glock be the G30? I thought the G21SF had the same length, but a thinner slide/grip.

SF stands for Short Frame, where the back stop has been chopped a bit for better trigger reach. The Slim "Line" you refer to is the G36 http://www.glock.com/english/glock36.htm

The G30 is a subcompact size. The G21SF is a full size.

thanks for the tip. great price on the pre-order, but unfortunately it's not on DOJ list... yet.

may just pick up the G22RTF and buy a conversion barrel.

I don't see any SF models for the .45 acp on Glocks web site for current models. Were they discontinued?

I wouldn't mind a RTF G22 as my HD but I think I will wait for a bit

Glock website is very, very, very slow in updating.

SF models should be on there in about 2-3 more years.

RTF models should be on there in about 5 more years.
