Older .44 mag Desert Eagle question

I'm thinking of getting a desert eagle, and my friend has an older model he's wiling ot part with for a deal. I was wondering if the older models can still swtich out to .50cal or .357 cal bbls. I know that the current models bolt and slide fit for the .50. Did it always? The serial is 214** if that helps determine its age.

    NO

    From Magnum Research's web site:

"Please note the Mark VII model is not convertible as the Mark XIX model is."

The older models require you to purchase a complete slide and barrel, along with the magazine, to complete the caliber change. The new ones all use the same slide with only a barrel change, the correct magazine, and bolt installed.
