    Question about XD's

Hello, okay I have shot a few handguns in my day and I bought a XD45. The gun is VERY stiff to pull back the slide. I have about 500 rounds through it and man its very hard compared to some other guns like HK's and 1911's. Now is this because its so new or are XD's just hard to pull the slide back in general?

I mean when I push the slide release the gun slams forward pretty hard.

    Any opinions?

My friend and I both bought XD45s recently. I've had the pleasure to shoot both. Compared to my 1911s, the slides on the XDs are very hard to pull. I must admit, it's not bad enough to make me love it any less.

My XD9 is the same way, really tough spring. At least I know it won't be wearing out any time soon.

Honestly I love EVERYTHING about the gun, BUT this. I hate it. When I try other peoples guns I envy the smooth butter of a pull and release =)

Swear sometimes it feels like it might slamfire or somethin

I've noticed this, too. Figured it was the design of the slide serrations being split.

I think it gets a little softer after a good few rounds through the gun. I got about 1000 rounds through my xd9 and the slide has definately loosened up a bit

Why not try storing it with the slide open for a week?

Having a compressed spring does not reduce the springs strength.

Its the constant compression and decompression that gets them weaker.

So sorry to tell you this, but it looks like you're just going to have to shoot it more.

I look at mine as giving me a hand workout, but you can buy a replacement guide rod & recoil spring at http://www.pistolgear.com/products.p...16100c15dd6405 for one.

It's stiff, but gives it a nice solid feel.

What about getting a lighter spring?

It will loosen up over time. Your trigger will feel better too.
