    Junk or repair or???

Howdy. I'd appreciate opinions on what could or should be done with this damage.
    Thank you in advance.

        is that a star firestar?

The value of the gun makes a difference. That value can be sentimental or cash value.

For the most part, weld and machine and refinish will far outweigh the value of most guns.

How did that damage happen? it just holds the magazine release lever in place and does not effect slide movement- if the mag catch works you could just cover the gap up with the grips and keep shooting it. Maybe?

If this is an 80% build, it's trash

You could always see if someone can just gob weld up in there and re cut it out....

If you are super ghetto, toss some jb weld in it

          Really though, trash it

It is a star firestar 9mm. Just looking for options at this point. I got it this way. Nice surprise. If it is ok to keep shooting it, I might just do that.

cannot see why it would be unsafe. That are just holds the magazine release- if it fails the gun could have failure to feed issues and drop mags but should not blow up or anything. For concealed carry the reliability may be compromised because of feed issues.
Hopefully you took good notes and pics when you took it apart. These are a pain to reassemble and there is little to no info on the internet.

The singe stack Firestar in 9 MM and 40 cal use the same frame. The double stacks I do not know about, The 45 ACP is a different frame dimension than the 9 and 40 frame.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I'll get it back together and go from there. Cheers.

I would not even try and fill the gap, I would just weld a bridge across the top and shape it. The grip would cover the repair.

It is safe to shoot as-is.

                      Does it still work ok?
Option 1 is just leave it and shoot on.
Option 2--it can be easily welded. Fit a patch, clamp a copper bar behind it so the weld doesn't stick out inside, and weld it. It could easily be filed smooth. The grips should cover the weld or a little cold bluing will fix it.
Find a local hobbyist/welder and file it yourself.
Option 3--sell it to me cheap

It did still work. Just figured I would get more thoughts on what to do. Much appreciated.
I can weld and will if I run into issues without a repair.

That will be a cast frame vs forged?

I believe they are cast, that may make welding a tougher job?

It would if it was a stressed part of the frame.
