Reed's in Santa Clara probably has it. They have one of the bigger selections still in the store.
    The following statement is true.
    The preceding statement was false.

Don't buy a 7 shot revo, they're more or less useless now that Smith has the 8 shots out.

I love mine.. I had the best luck just buying on gun broker. It was cheaper to pay all of the fees than have someone order one.

Either that or rechamber my 627 to 9mm.
I hear both good & bad experience on forums
Some suggest just use short colts.
Best is 9mm that's one less caliber to reload

I've seen the 986 and 929 at Triple A Sports in Vallejo and Canyon Sports in Martinez.

In that case, he should buy both! Then get a 6 shot and a 5 shot to round off the collection.

How does that render it useless (and I have neither, BTW)?
Perhaps Hillary there is only referring to range-game guns?

There's no advantage to a seven shot over a six shot, other than one more round. Where as an eight shot is competitive in USPSA and ICORE if you decide to shoot them.

If you're buying a new revo, why not get the most versatile?

That would depend on the reason you are acquiring a new revolver.
I can see why in some cases a five or six-shot may be more desirable than something larger.
Now if you are talking gamesmanship, I totally get it.

How about rechamber it to 9?
                        Is 38 cal bullet required

Even when 8 shooters came out, ICORE stages were supposed to be 6 shot neutral. Some stage designers have decided they want this to be more like USPSA.
The 986 balances/handles better for me than the 929. I wish Smith made a 5" 929 with a cylinder that allowed a 1.280 OAL, and no extra length on the cylinder over that requirement.
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

I was just there and in deed they have one.
They also have carry comp model 19 & 586
                            Slightly above MSRP though

So tempted to send my cylinder for a 9mm conversion
Cost is 350 plus moon clips
