I saw a picture somewhere of a standard 75B upper half attached to a 75 compact lower and cannot find it. does anyone here have both that could post a picture?

I don't know of that picture (I've seen it the other way, compact slide on a full sized frame) but I could try and put one together for you; I could put a SA slide on a PCR D or P-01 frame, it should fit. Do you need a certain angle or close-up of something specific about the combination that you're looking to see?

Thanks for the response ivviepop, I have also seen the compact slide on the full size frame. The idea behind that is a more compact package with the larger ammo capacity of the full size. Since we are limited to ten rounds in California anyway the opposite would seem to make more sense. Not looking for any particular angle just from the side to see what it would look like. The SA slide on the PCR if it fits would work for me, thanks!

You got it -- if anything, the slide stop might not work (lug hole in bbl might not line up?) but the slide should fit on the rails, as they're common to all the frames and the standalone Kadet Kit fits on any frame (it comes with it's own slide stop, tho). I'll see what I can drum up for you, I just shot the PCR last night and was planning on cleaning it tonight anyway.

Here ya go -- the frame on the PCR & P-01 are wider, the PCR has a longer slide stop bolt and the catch is longer to go into the frame and capture the slide. The SA slide on the PCR is shown, it appeared to cycle fine, the slide locked back, etc.

The combo is definitely top-heavy, reminds me of holding a Glock. If I were to built this combo I'd use a steel compact frame and not one of the alloy ones; the steel compact frame should balance it out better and feel OK.

I agree on the balance as I have a Sig 228, I was looking at the 75 compact in 9mm that comes with the steel frame and using the slide off a 75B standard model.

I have not purchased a CZ yet, is there any upgrades I should opt for when I order? The gun will be used mostly for shooting at paper and for HD.

I just switched the slides on two of my CZ's....

75B 40 S&W slide, barrel, guide rod & spring fits on Compact 40 S&W frame with no problems using the original compact slide stop.. The Compact slide is just a smidge (however much that is) too large at the end to clear the 75B frame.

Most people get a trigger job as their first upgrade post-purchase, the CZ trigger has a lot of travel and can be heavy (except for the Tactical Sport, it's sweet out of the box). You might sport for night sights (tritium) on the model you buy from the factory if possible since you won't be replacing the sights with fiber optic & such (not as a HD/plink gun). New grips might be an option depending on what you like, too.

The one thing I do to all mine with those crappy glow-dot sights is put a dab of fluorescent orange model gloss enamel paint (Testes) over the front sight with a toothpick. My eyes have a lot of trouble picking up front sights that are the same color as the rears, that dab of paint does wonders. Use a pair of yellow-tinted safety lenses and it glows like a cherry in the sun, next best thing to putting a fiber front sight on the gun. (you can see it in the pics above)

If you don't want to sport for a gunsmith-oriented trigger job right away you can smooth it out a little bit yourself by watching how the hammer release bar works and smoothing it down a little and stuff like that. Take the slide of, watch what parts engage/disengage when the trigger is pulled and the hammer is released and get in there with some tools to clean them up and smooth them out. Dry firing with a snap cap helps smooth them out naturally and make the trigger nicer - put a cap in, turn on the hockey game and sit there and single-action dry fire it for a few hours.
