Date should be on the label on the box. Around year 1994. -

For the initial poster, the 3-letter s/n codes from S&W are not always in a chronological order. From my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (SCSW) the "BRM" prefix indicates 1993, while "BRK" is listed as 1994; yet there's a "BRR" code in 2001.
I don't have any info as to what an "S" stamped means or if it even has a meaning. I think you're referring to the "yoke" vs. an "ejector rod housing".(former) Glock and 1911 Armorer; LEO (now retired)Comment

Whats the product code # on the end of the box?Comment

The 686-4 is the best variant in my opinion. I have a 6” model and it’s fantastic. Do you have the original box? I’d love to see pictures and the box codes. Pick up a copy of “Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson” by Jim Supica. Its a great read if you are interested in collecting Smith & Wesson revolvers.Comment

Wow, thanks for all the info gents.
Didn't know that about the date. See attached pics, where is it and how do I read it?
Thanks. My Google Fu game is weak!
Very possible. Like I said, my revolver game is weak. See attached pics. It is in the housing in the barrel lug for the the ejector rod.For the initial poster, the 3-letter s/n codes from S&W are not always in a chronological order. Thanks, I need to get that book.

P.s. The original grips were included along with the ones on the revolver.

The info on your label " 4 S TS TS-CT-RR-WO " translates to 4" barrel, stainless finish, target stocks, target stocks-combat trigger-red ramp front sight insert-white outline on the rear sight blade.
Per the "Bible" your product code (104222) the features (options) available on your gun (during production run 686-4) were.....4" (barrel length) S (stainless finish) SG (synthetic grips) RR (red ramp front sight insert) WO (white outline on the rear sight blade) DT (drilled and tapped) RB/SB (round butt frame /square butt frame) 1996-01-2001 retail $607.
The Spec. Ord. #s 4090 4263 on your label usually indicates your gun was part of a special order to the S&W factory from a fairly large national distributor. The distributor ordered the batch of guns with the features (options) indicated on your label. (4" S TS TS-CT-RR-WO)
Hope this info helps. Great gun. Enjoy.
P.S.......The "S" stamped in the ejector rod housing means "Stainless".Last edited by Mr. Beretta; 07-04-2019, 4:44 PM.Comment

Nice! I always like the pre lock revolvers. I like the older rollmark because the newer ones are I think laser on and fade away. I have a 610 with the rollmark almost gone.Originally posted by 69Mach1The virgin requires more work (don't they all
