    Seems like yesterday

I once worked for the Sacramento Union, and kept a copy of its last edition, Jan. 14, 1994. I came across that copy today by chance and noticed that the sports section carried an ad from a local gun shop, also now defunct, and thought the prices might be interesting.

    Ruger Bearcat $349.97, Ruger Vaquero .45 LC $449.97, Ruger KP-90 .45 ACP $349.97, Ruger KCP-100 .357 MAG $319.97, Mitchell Luger 9 mm $489.97, Magnum Research .44 MAg auto $799.97.

I would guess that prices have not kept up with inflation over the 25 years since. One chart I consulted says inflation during that period was 73 percent, so maybe guns are actually cheaper now in real terms. Others might disagree.

Guns and ammo are comparatively cheaper now than they were back then.
