    Rubber grips for model 29

I just picked up a 29 no dash, and shot it today. Its everything I thought it would be, and punishes my Nancy-boy hands, so I'm looking for some rubber grips to put on it when I'm not pretending to be a tough guy.

I looked on Amazon and the reviews for pachmayr were pretty bad. I thought those were the go-to, but maybe not?

Any personal experience would be appreciated.

I tried to search, but I I didnt have the luck I usually have.

      Blasphemy!
I have pachmayrs on my 1911 and I love em. Only problems I've seen people have are the little emblems falling out, which I haven't experienced.

          Attached is a pic.

There is some surface pitting on the bottom of the trigger guard, and the cylinder is a little rough on one side, but it shoots great.

I'll check out the X-frame grips

Lovely gun! The strips or hogue grips (the x grips are made by hogue as well) will uglify the gun, but make it more enjoyable to shoot

The Hogue X-frame say they are round butt conversion, but mine is a square butt, it seems?

I really like the rubber grips that now come standard on the new S&W model 629's. They are well designed , attractive and very well cushioned. I ordered them from smith and Wesson as replacement parts. They should fit any square butt 29/629. I have done that with several of my older model 629's.

The grips in pic below are interchangeable between my later model S&W 617 and 686. With a nice 29 like you got you can swap grips quickly. You could shoot 44 spl with the wood grips w/o pain. There is noticeable difference with the Hogue grips for shooting magnums.
When I'm going to take out my 357, I always reload both some 38 spl wad cutters and some full magnum jacketed HPs.

Personally, I have had no problem with Pachmayrs and prefer them as they cover the backstrap and seem to reduce recoil more.

I've always used Pachmayr's on my Smith revolver's. They aren't as cushioned as the Hogue's are. The one's on my 586 are 30+ year's old, they are showing a bit of wear and tear on the bottom, from rubbing on car seat's for several years of use, but they still do the job fine.

The only gun that wear's Hogue's is my 637 for pocket carry, but it's not a lot of fun to shoot with +P's no matter what grips it has on it.

I prefer Hogues, but they can only do so much when cushioning .44 mag, you're still going to know those are magnum loads

                            .
The 29 kicks... and that is OK

The grip will rotate and slide in your hand... that is ok... If you eliminate the rotational slip... you can tear skin....

It might sound counterintuitive, but smooth grips are great for large recoil as the gun can rotate and not harm the skin... not the best for a follow up shot...

in the same way your hand gets smaller at the pinky... grips get bigger... why - to help keep your hand as high as possible...

Why do you want rubber grips? what problem are you trying to solve?

What ever you get make sure the back strap is covered with rubber. Some of the Hogues leave it open so there's bare metal against your hand. I prefer old-school Pachmayr in size large (N frame come in S, M, and L). I usually find them NIB on eBay for around $25.
