I want to get a Trijicon RMR on my Glock 19 Gen 3. Is buying a Gen 4 OEM slide the best way to do it?

Short answer = Nope.
Simplified answer...
The Gen 4-5 Glocks utilizes a bigger recoil spring assembly which changes the dimensions of the slide's interior which makes them incompatible with the Gen 1-3 Glocks.
^Some aftermarket vendors are now selling an adapter to make it work. But, it reduces the reliability of the pistol.

There are aftermarket Gen 1-3 slides that are made for microdot sights.
