    Adding Light/Laser Attachment

    Hey all,

Just got my G23 out of jail and wanted to make it my HD firearm. Was looking at some light attachments on Amazon. Is it worth having one on the gun or just using a separate flashlight and place it next to it on the night stand? If you do have one, which ones would you suggest?

Was looking at light/laser combo but they are expensive. So maybe a simple light attachment with night sights may do. What do you think?

    TIA

It's really a matter of personal preference and, IMO, the environment that you will be using it in.

For a nightstand gun, I prefer a standalone flashlight over a weapon light. Why? If something goes bump in the night, I don't want to end up pointing a loaded gun at a loved one during a stressful situation. However, you need to practice shooting one hand regularly and adopt a way to hold the light that works for you. If your nightstand gun has a 12 lb trigger and you can't shoot it accurately one handed, then this is not going to work for you.

When I take the dog out at night in the country - where coyotes, bobcats, and wild pigs abound, I prefer a weapon light with a grip mounted switch. I don't care if I flag a coyote while waiting for my dog to pee. In fact, I kinda wish that would happen. I use a Surefire X-300, a Streamlight TLR-1 and a Streamlight TRL-7 on different guns for this task.

Get the light attachment. The laser does not help and only looks cool in movies.

        Streamlight make the best imho.
I went with a TLR2 realized the laser never will get used and picked up a bunch of TLR1s instead

Personal preference. I prefer a weapon mounted light for home defense. I live in the sticks and anybody in my house other than the wife or I shouldn't be there, so sweeping a friendly isn't an issue for me. Plus, having a weapon light gives you a free hand for checking doors and such.

That said I also keep a high intensity flashlight on the nightstand just in case. I'm not a big fan of lasers.
