    S&W Revolver A / B codes?

Just wanted to ask if there were really any differences between same model number and dash on S&W current production revolvers?
I see them listed with the same SKU, but some have an A and others do not?
Same gun? Not the same gun? I know Ca. requires the A. Just curious if there were really any other differences.
    Random example: 617-6 SKU 160584A V.S. 617-6 SKU 160584

Here's a thread on the issue from a few weeks ago:

I'm not sure what other changes might be on specific models.

By the way it's not that CA requires an "A"; if the SKU on the roster has an "A" the gun you buy must have an "A", and if the SKU has a "B" your gun must have a "B", etc. Only pertains to new guns and not PPTs.
