    Ruger P89 question

I have a Ruger P89 9mm that shoots several inches low. I have about 50-75 rounds through it so far. Distance is about 25 yards to the target. The ammo I was using is Winchester 115gr FMJ white box. Any ideas? Also in single action is there alot of takeup on the trigger on Ruger P series?
    Thanks

If you are shooting from a rest and it shoots several inches low contact ruger. They make different height rear sights. You would need a taller one. If you are just shooting off hand it could be just you. Mark

+1. Shoot from a rest - your range bag or whatever. Start at 10 yards, line up the sights carefully, squeeze the trigger sloooowly, and repeat until empty.

Ignore the holes in the target - concentrate on sight alignment and slow trigger squeeze.

This should give you the best groups and accuracy for your combo of ammo and pistol. If it's still off, try another brand of ammo, though my P95 is nicely accurate with WWB ammo.

If it's good when rested and off when shooting freehand, slow down and focus on sight alignment and trigger squeeze. Feel the motion of the trigger, the grit in the mechanism, every little bit of movement until it fires.

I cant add anything more to the above other than, yes, ruger P series have a long take up in single action.

I also suggest starting closer in, and seeing if the problem is still there. it could just be your form. use the rest, even an improvised one, take your time, and concentrate. Then, report back and we can help you further.

Before changing/adjusting sights, try different brands or loadings of ammo; these variants may have different relative impact positions.

I've found that it is always a good idea to start from a rest with a new or new to me gun. That allows me to know what to expect from my normal sight picture and the ammo being used without my skill and tecnique (or lack there of) influencing the results. If it shoots fine from a rest, and you still have trouble with low hits, use this chart to find your potential problem

I will take gun out on Wednesday and try again. I think its shooter related.
              Thanks for the chart.

Was going to say the same thing. Some of my fixed sight Ruger revolvers as an example have stroung preferences for certain bullet weights in regards to elevation accuracy.

                  Welcome to CalGuns Cdlale.

It's common to anticipate the recoil of the gun by pushing the muzzle down as you pull the last bit of trigger. Follow the advice for shooting from a rest to isolate any possible problems with the gun.

I have a family of P89s and love them all.
