    Making a "cut-away" gun

I went to the NRA convention and saw one of the glock cut-away (parts of the gun were missing to show function) guns. I went full nerd and thought it was awesome. I read somewhere that the glock cut-away guns are only for trainers and LE. I see them pop up on gunbroker too, but I don't want a glock one. I would like to take a beat up M&P and turn it into a cut away gun.

Question is, has anyone heard of someone taking a functional gun and making this?

I don't expect to shoot the gun, just a display piece. I would probably cut part of the firing pin to make sure it did not fire.

There’s a video somewhere of Larry Vickery firing a fully functional Wilson Combat cutaway 1911. Pretty interesting.

My guess is the quote for the work will immediately end this endeavor. A used M&P (off roster unless you're talking about the Shield) is at least $600. The machine work by someone who knows what they're doing is going to be more than that.
