HK P30 vs P30L

i'm trying to make a decision about which model to buy.
was wondering if anyone has had experience shooting both or has both? which do you prefer and why?

i've heard that there is less recoil on the Long but it takes longer to get back on target....and the regular p30 is slightly quicker but not as forgiving on accuracy.

then there is the whole trigger issue which i've seen youtube videos on. some people just adapt to it and other hate it and spend an extra $400 on a custom trigger job to reduce the travel to reset.

It's a combat handgun. The travel is there to shoot better under extreme stress. If you want a Mickey Mouse trigger for target plinking stick to striker fired guns. Or get the LEM, a hammer that wannabes a striker lol.

I owned a P30L 9mm v3 before moving to California years ago. It was nice but I sold it because I thought it wasn't allowed to be in California because of the capacity of it (I am dumb and wish I kept it).

If you have the option of getting a P30 or a P30L, I would go for the long slide version without hesitation.

As for the longer reset, it does have a slightly longer reset vs. other guns and to be honest it's not my favorite part about the new P-series pistols (P30 and P2000). It's not terrible by any means, it's just part of the package. I wish they kept the reset the same as it was on the USP and the HK45 as it a bit shorter. I have seen some short reset kits out there for it and I might try it out on one of my P2000's that I have now.

If you are worried about the reset, go and rent one to try it out. A P2000 will have just about the same exact trigger as the P30 if you can't find a P30 to rent.

This is the 3rd person on this forum in a day concerned with the length of trigger reset.

Regarding YouTube videos, most people have no idea what they're talking about, so they'll just parrot what others say in order to sound knowledgeable.

Reducing reset could shave a few hundredths of a second off the split times of a very skilled shooter.

If the person reading this doesn't know what their splits are, then they should stop worrying about reducing reset.

Hell, I know my split times and what's holding me back from sub 2 second Bill Drills isn't my trigger needing an extra 1/16-1/32" worth of reset.

I agree that for a new shooter, they shouldn't worry about the trigger reset. That being said, after shooting my P2000 with a Light LEM trigger setup for a couple years now as my primary handgun, I find that I do slap the trigger a bit when shooting my striker fired guns (a VP9 and a Glock 19) as I am expecting a longer trigger reset than those guns actually have.

To be honest, I wish H&K made the P2000 and P30 guns with resets similar to the USP and the HK45. I personally feel those are better triggers from the factory.

can you just replace the trigger.....like an AR or is it a big deal requiring a gunsmith?

I would leave the trigger alone and learn how to use it instead.

I've had a HK P30S 9mm DA/SA pistol for several years now---like it a lot---accurate and reliable---shot a P30L at range in another state---honestly, I liked both pistols---couldn't say one was better than the other...
As for the DA/SA trigger: P30s are service type pistols---I have no real issues with the trigger, but agree, if you could get one with the the USP trigger (I have a couple of USPs) it has less take-up...
