    Thoughts... EAA VS CZ

I'm hoping to get some opinions (Roster aside), on pros/cons between a EAA Witness Limited 9mm vs a CZ Tactical Sport Pistol 9mm.

    Vs

Explore the CZ 75 series—precision-crafted pistols designed for competitive shooting.

They both priced about the same. EAA has adjustable sights and tapped for scope mount. However, seems like CZ has more available parts? Hoping to get better understanding of differences between manufacturers, quality, etc.

FWIW, would be used strictly as target and fun-gun. No competition.

    Thanks

I have both and they are awesome. The Tac Sport trigger is around 2 lbs while the Limited is around 3.5 lbs. Limited has the Bull barrel and feels a little better in my hand but I think the TS shoots slightly tighter groups. But that could be because of the lighter trigger. Also my TS has adjustable sights installed with FO front.

Magazines for the Limited is about the same as the TS because you also have to buy a base plate so expect to spend around $50 each mag. Limited looks nicer and has a better fit and finish.

    The answer is buy both.

The funny thing is that I do have one of each, LOL.

There are usually more parts for the CZ than Tanfoglios. But TBH, other than upgrading the sights and maybe the grips/magwell, the TS is ready to run out of the box. The barrel is also a little bit longer.

The Limited will take more work but there is actually quite a bit of aftermarket support and it has a Bull barrel. I also like the ergos of the Tanfo checkered frames more than the Tac Sport and the CZ75 line.

I dont have the Limited but I do have a Stock III and a TS. Personally, I'd take a Tanfoglio over a CZ anyday except for the Shadow 2 which was pretty much CZ finally getting with the program and offering a production gun that meets or exceedsTanfoglio specs. The frame on the Tanfo is very high quality and just more refined than the TS. The TS has a very light trigger but it is plastic. Cant go wrong either way. Best to get both, shoot them for a year and sell the one you dont like as much.

Another cool feature on the Tanfo is you can change calibers pretty easily by just switching slide assemblies and magazines so the same frame can be used for 9mm, .38, .40, 10mm, and .45.

If you can only choose one, definitely get the Tanfo limited. The TS really doesnt compare. Oh yeah, and the frame checkering and extended upswept beavertail on the Tanfos are a work of art.

Assuming the frame on the Witness Limited is the same as on the Witness Limited Gold Extreme, the EAA fits my hand better than the CZ TS. Based on the Stock 3, the Gold Extreme and the Hunter, I think the EAA build quality is a bit better on the EAA's than on the TS. Only the new CZ models such as the S2 matches the build quality.

Yes, agree with himurax13, the EAA frame checkering is a lot better. I think this is why CZ changed the checkering on the S2 and TSO.

So, if my choice is between the EAA Limited or the TS, I'd go for the EAA.

I have the EAA Witness Match, a friend has the CZ Tactical. I also have a few CZs - CZ 97 and the RAMI. And a Tanfoglio TA 90 in 41AE, 9mm and 22 lr.

I think the EAA Match has a better SA trigger pull and is finished a bit better than the CZ. I like the CZ Tactical sights better though.

I like having conversion options. In addition to those on the TA 90 I have a 40 S&W and 22 lr for the EAA Match, which came in 9mm. IIRC paid $800.00 for the set up locally. The EAA for some reason can be found with pretty good pricing, especially outside CA. I paid $199.00 for the TA 90 in CA, due mostly to it being a 41AE base pistol.

Were I to pick one and no conversion I suppose I'd go with the CZ though.

Don't know your location, but Reeds in San Carlos (or San something above San Jose) is back into selling used guns. Saw 3 CZ Tacticals there for about $900.00 to $1,000.00 or so.

Interesting inputs. I really thought there would be more pros towards the CZ.

Did I read that right: the CZ TS has a plastic trigger? I did not know that.

Dfletcher.... thanks for he tip. I'm down in LA area but always looking for a good deal.

                  This. ^^^

In case you haven't noticed, there are recs on both sides of the table, which means that they are both very good - any differences are subtle and chalked up to personal style/taste.

(BTW, I own both, and like both, for different reasons.)

The only way you will know is to do what Mr. Deplorable says above.

The EAA has a cone fit barrel, I'd go with that.

                    (I'd normally prefer CZ pistols.)

Been looking at slides from EAA Witness to possibly build a 6” upper. I think I’m coming down with the CZ bug. Back in the late 80s - early 90s there was a flood of EAA Witness parts at very decent pricing. I had a bit of experience with the Witness pistol as I shot a Springfield P9 back in the 80s. Wish I never sold that gun. Back then EAA Witness had the big frame (45, 10mm, 38 Sup), and the small frame (9mm, 40). Now they just make all those calibers with the big frame. I’d like to get a hold of a current Witness slide and see if it will work with my CZ S2 for a custom upper build.

I own several CZ's including a Tac-Sport great guns with no faults, but the fit and finish on the EAA's I have handled has been superior.

It won't, not even the small frame slide.

The Italian's really have mastered the CZ75 and make a darn good clone. You guys probably all know this, but the Witness is just the brand name that EAA, the importer, markets the Tanfoglio as. These guns are made by Tanfoglio in Italy not EAA. I dont know why EAA thinks they need to market them as anything other than Tanfoglio, seems kind of silly and redundant.

Also keep in mind the “off roster effect” in Calgunners: anything unobtainable always seems more desirable. If you were to ask them to compare a Shadow 2 91255* with a Tanfo Limited 600310, the recommendations would likely be different.

With that said, the build quality of older CZ guns were not up to par with Tanfos until recently. So comparing the old style on-roster TacSport with a Tanfo Limited, most will say the Tanfo is better. But put the build quality of a Shadow 2 against a Tanfo and you’ll see that the Czech have caught up lately.

                              —————————————
                              * I’m using the urban grey S2 for example as this model is what’s currently flooding the market and its prices is within $10 of the Tanfo Limited.
