One in a Million Chance - UPDATE

Well, after 33 years, I have a slight chance of buying back a gun I sold when money was tight and I needed to liquidate my collection.

In the late 70's, I was newly married and had my back to the wall financially. I sold a Rem. 742, a Marlin 1895, a S&W Model 57, a Walther PPKs, a Colt 70 Series Govt, Model, and a Colt 70 Series Combat Commander. Of all of these guns, the one I have lamented most over all of these years was the Combat Commander (.38 Super in Satin Nickle).

Last week, I located the person I sold the gun to and he agreed to sell it back to me. We are both obviously much older and he is willing to make me whole once he tracks it down. I am on pins and needles while he checks with a few relatives who he thinks may still have the gun.

A one in a million shot if it all comes together, but I am thinking positive and believing it will all come together.

I read at times about guys who find and buy back a now classic car they owned thirty years ago, and I am hoping that I can report back with a similar situation soon.

    Wish me luck!!

        Good luck...

That is an interesting story, and I hope you are successful.

I once tried to track down a lost gun myself. As a young man in 1962 I bought my first handgun, a Remington Rand US Army 1911 for $35 from a co-worker. This is the price the government set for disposal of WW2 pistols through the NRA to civilians. I had the gun for a couple of years and left it at home when I went to college. Unknown to me, my dad sold it to my uncle, who liked guns. I guess dad didn't want it around the house.

A few years ago I spoke to my uncle on the phone in Florida, where he retired. I asked him if he remembered the gun and whether he still had it. Unfortunately, he had sold it to another relative, a gun collector, and when that relative died his collection was sold off. So I couldn't retrieve the Remington Rand. These now sell for over $1,000, of course.

How disappointed will you be if he presents to you a totally thrashed pistol after all these years?

Good luck! That would be awesome. I love commanders.

Even if it's beat to death, it can be restored, and you'll love having it (I know restos lose value, but I doubt you'll ever again part with it, so the value thing is not your problem).

            Keep us posted.

Good luck. I had a similar thing happen to me but with a custom knife. I sold it and most of my knife collection to pay rising medical bills. I missed that one knife dearly and frequently wonder where it was. Years later when I was more financially stable I tried to tack it down. It had changed hands multiple times but I was able to track down the current owner who lived in China. After several email exchanges he offered to sell it back to me.

I still have that knife today and carry it sometimes. I know what its like to have sellers remorse and I sincerely hope you get them back.

                  Good luck.

I rarely regret buying, but boy do I have a bunch of seller regret.

Good luck. I had a similar story. My father wound up selling the gun I learned to shoot on to a business associate when times got tough for us. About five years later, the gentleman unfortunately passed away, and my father wound up buying his entire collection, including my rifle, which I still have and will never part with.
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

My Don Williams High Power was stolen 6 years ago and I get it back as soon as the trial of the human garbage who was holding it when the Richmond Police shot him 6 times is over.

                              The trial started last week!

It had the Birdsong Black-T finish so I am hoping that 5 years in the hands of *****hats did not damage it. Oh yes, I will show it to you all when it returns.
