I have an OEM set on my Model 64, but they are staying on the gun. Frankly, the grips on my newer 586 Classic are nicer than the old grips on my K...since Smith is reintroducing a lot of their classic lineup, why not go with some new ones directly from S&W?

I might still have a set from a model 66...would that work?

This company makes quality repros. Some even have S&W logo's.

Have you checked CDNN for S&W grips?

Not original but ebay Thailand grips, seller Jaruwan.p, has some really nice grips with pretty grain and S&W medallions for really good prices. Bought two sets of square frame grips one N frame one K frame from this seller.

reddkultt another Thailand ebay seller has some really pretty wood grips but prices a little higher. Bought one set of pretty 1911 grips with Colt medallion from this seller.

S&W Forum usually has stocks for sale. Sometimes you can get a deal.

I think I knew that (DOH!) but the "-4" threw me.
Looks like you don't need 'em anymore, but let me know if you change your mind and I'll try to find them. These were original that were changed out when I bought the gun in....uh, the 90's I think.

It should have a brushed blue, not matte finish and simple black on black front/rear sights.

Does it have a service hammer/trigger?

A SN range of AYY thru AYZ ?

Do you have the original box? If so, is the product code # 100704?

                  Are you sure it's a 19-4 not a 19-5 ?

And yes....A factory letter is in ordered IMHO.

I found the information on the DSS issue guns here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_19

Mine is a Model 19-4, not a Model 19-5 and doesn't exactly match the description, One of the last variations of the Model 19 ordered for police use was the 2.5" Model 19-5, special ordered under SKU #100701 as the standard issue sidearm for Special Agents of the US Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service. This model featured a .400" wide, smooth "combat" trigger, Pachmayr Professional Compac rubber grips, and most notably a matte black finish instead of the common high-polished blue. but it's the closest to mine I have found so far.

Serial number is 93K07XX, so 1981 production.

I don't have the original box or any original paperwork for it, just the gun. I got it at one of my local friendly gunshops and what they told me is that it came from the estate of some law enforcement officer and was part of his collection.

At first I thought it was just a blued gun that someone had Parkerized or put some other kind of finish on, and Pachmayr grips. I got it planning to use it as one of my concealed carry guns when I apply for my CCW and the price was right, so I figured that even if the grips and finish were not original that it was still fine for my intended use.

But then some dog medical bills came up and I put a couple guns, including this one, up for sale to help cover some of them. I'm reluctant to sell it, but kind of short on cash right now too and would like to pay the credit cards down some. So I'm still trying hard to justify selling or keeping it. It's not as small and light as my nickel Chief's Special, but I do like the more powerful caliber and extra round and would rather put any wear on this than my nickel Model 19-2

Here are photos of it compared to my nickel 19-2, and a photo of a DSS 19-5 from the Wiki article:
Thanks for the info & pics.

                    Based on;

1.....Your gun's SN and production series (19-4 not 19-5) is not in the correct series range.

2.....Your gun has a factory red ramp front sight. The DSS guns had "black on black" sights.

3.....Your gun has the standard Pachmayr compac grips. The DSS guns had the upgraded Pachmayr Professional Compac grips.

4.....The current finish on your gun is not factory S&W. Dead giveaway is the hammer & trigger on your gun has been refinish. It is an after market matte finish.

So IMHO, your gun is not a DSS issued weapon. And if the gun was mine, I would not spent the money on a factory letter.

It is however, a pre lock model 19 snub. A very sought after configuration. GLWS.

If you are going to sell, and I wouldn't, sell as is.

Mr. Beretta appears to be well informed with good information. The selling question agreement is coincidental to his timely post. Good Luck OP.
