Agreed on the balance of the 4". I have 2 of the L frames, 586 (blued) and a 681 (stainless, fixed sights). Great in single-action firing.

I haven't visited in years, but you may want to check out the Smith and Wesson forum: http://smith-wessonforum.com/
Used to be a lot of knowledgeable folk there.

Where are you finding the blued ones? What dash are they?

x2 on the Smith & Wesson Forum, that is one bunch of super smart S&W peeps. NO S&W question is too tough for those guys.
            It's an exceptional Forum.

On the good side. An almost "not in CA" price. I paid $650.00 for my 6" version, in box.

If you're looking after collectible type Smith revolvers in L frame the 696 in 44 Special and 646 PC in 40 S&W are pretty good catches.

Why can't I find any deals in .357 magnum revolvers like you have found?

Agreed, I'd take them both for that

I’m pretty much in same boat, the L frames are nice but I’d focus on the K & N Frames for quality and collectibility...$600 is a steal

No dash 686s are very nice to collect.

                        Nice steal!

I'm very partial to the 686's. The frame size is very comfortable...I'd say it's perfect for me and I have big hands. They don't feel as 'clunky' as the larger 629's. I have a -3, and a Pro Series -6 that are very nice. Both local PPT's. Do I read this thread right that all 686's are considered combats and therefore are roster OK??? I see a lot of them out of state, but didn't think they were roster approved...

They are all Distinguished Combat Magnums.
686 denotes their stainless while 586 is their blued line.

Nope I ain't gonna do that. According to CalGuns the roster restriction is about to be heard by SCOTUS to see if they will make a ruling on it being unconstitutional. I'll wait til then... Converting a DA to SA just to import it is BS....

The S&W Catalog is readily available on Amazon. Invaluable to S&W owners.
